| LC9 sights way off?
Bought a nice used LC9 about a week ago (guessing mid/late 2011 production by serial #). Love the feel, how it carries, lack of printing, etc... Mechanically everything works like it should except it shoots real low, like about 18" low at 10 yards Thought it was me at first then I tried my friends LC9 and was only 4-6" low.
I'm going to contact Ruger about it and came up with an idea of a visual aid to show just how off my LC9 seems to be.
Took a straight piece of 5/16" wood dowel and wrapped one end with scotch tape so it wouldn't flop around in the barrel.
Aiming at an eye level "target" with the dowel level the sight picture looks like this.
With the dots on the sights lined up, things end up being more like this.
Opinions please

I think you should hang a flag from that dowel that says "Bang"! |

But, assuming the OP who is a new member is serious, we apologize for the joking around.
Did you shoot the pistol from a rest? Was the 18" low at 30' repeatable? That is an extreme difference. Do the sights look original?

Yes, sorry for the humor. The front sight on my LC9 has been known to move on it's own free will and in need of adjustment. But, yours appears to be fine, so does your rear sight. If the dowel rod is in fact straight, it almost appears the barrel is not centered. I've never seen that.

No worries on jokes! The bang flag comment had me LMFAO!
Haven't fired it from a rest yet, but I had shot my friends LC9 the same day and was only 4-6" low with the same stance and grip. I had only brought 50 rounds with me to the range and the first clip was a case of "where the heck am I hitting!?!?" I will say my 9 was fairly consistent on hitting low by 12-18"
The front sight is pinned so I know that's not moving on the slide
The down angle picture is a little on the extreme side. But I was trying to keep my arms straight.
After some pondering I'm thinking part of it could be my stance.... I might not be raising my arms high enough while sighting down the gun I'll give that a try before I start bothering Ruger.

If I were in your position I would get a stable rest of some sort - doesn't have to be fancy - anything that will support your pistol and your arm, and make sure your sight picture it good - top of the front sight even with the tops of the rear sight. Slowly squeeze off a shot while holding that sight picture. I am not familiar with the exact pistol you have or if the rear sight is adjustable in elevation, but some sights are best used with the bulls eye sitting right on top of the front post and others with the top of the front sight in the center of the bulls eye. But that won't give you an 18" difference between POA and POI.
Let us know how it works out. Good luck.

The front sight moving left or right is not going to make it low. Try starting at 10 feet & see how you do. Also let someone very experienced with DAO triggers try it. The picture you posted does not show proper sight alignment.
Hope this helps.

Only one way to fix the elevation issue with Rugers LC9 sights.
1 inch belt sander and some paint.
Yes mine was extremely low at 10 feet also. Not to mention that it was way off to the left.
They are going to replace my slide due to the bluing coming off so when that gets here I will have to start all over again.

Would definitely bench test it with sandbags at 3yds first. Then start moving back. Repeatable results is what your looking for. If it bullseyes at 3 and 7 yds, It can really help in nailing down whether it's the pistol or your technique.

Finally got back out to the range yesterday. I'm happy but embarrased to say that the shooting way low was a result of my technique, not the LC9. I wasn't raising the gun high enough to properly aim down the sights.
Didn't get to shoot from a rest, but I'm now at least hitting the target I'm aiming for at 7-10 yards. Just need more practice.
The LC9 itself is working just fine! The only issue I had was the rear sight loosened up after about 125 rounds (2 seconds with an allen wrench fixed it). Put 180 rounds of United factory reloads (least expensive rounds I could find) though it without any other issues.
The only thing I need to change on the gun is to repaint the sight dots to something bright.
