Nothing, actually, and that's the beauty of the SR1911. It's faithful to the basic 1911 design. Ruger refrained from adding a one piece guide rod, ambi safety, firing pin safety or a lot of other add ons. It's what a 1911 should be - rugged, reliable, simple, solid, all metal and wood. Did I mention that every part is made in the U.S.A.? That doesn't hurt, either.

I'm not a 1911 expert but the what makes the SR1911 different:

1. It is not a super-tuned, tight clearance, expensive custom gun.

2. It is not a loose clearance, bottom rung el-cheapo.

For me, it's the "Goldilocks" 1911. Because it's not a super tight clearance 1911, the SR1911 is not ammo sensitive. Because it's not a bottom rung loose clearance 1911, it's not a wobbly inaccurate mess. The SR1911 is a good, American made pistol that is an unbelievable good value for the dollar.

The SR1911 is a Series 70 with a titanium firing pin, meaning no fiddly Series 80 firing pin safety. That makes the SR1911 a thousand times easier to fully disassemble and reassemble.

One thing that Ruger does that I definitely consider an improvement is the plunger tube being cast integral to the frame. I have seen plunger tubes break on other 1911s.

I am looking to purchase a 1911 in my near future and am looking between the SR1911 and one of the Kimbers. The more I read about the SR1911 and its reviews the more I am leaning towards it. Kimber from what I hear is a great quality firearm but is a bit pricey compared to the SR1911 which is another great quality firearm but at a more reasonable price. NOW to find one in stock at a LGS is a challenge.

Remington from what I hear are good for their rifles, shotguns, and ammo. The brands to look at for 1911s are Kimber, Ruger, SW, and Colt.

I have both a Kimber and SR1911. To get a Kimber that's like SR1911 be prepared to shell around $1300, and all you get is a gun that's a little tighter. My Kimber is aluminum frame which makes it a little lighter. But the main spring housing is plastic and no barrel bushing. Nice gun but would trade it before my SR1911. By the way the Kimber was $900.

Remington also makes the 1911 but I am saying Remington is more known for their rifles and shotguns.

When I got my SR1911 the first stop was my buddy's house. He has three Kimbers and a couple other brands I know one is a Smith .
We took it apart to clean it , I wanted to know what he thought and I knew he would tell me . He dose not like cheap copy's. I held my breath till he said "Wow this is a very well built gun! I got to get me one of these!"
So I'm very happy with it , 1000 + no problems !
