for the monies it's got a nice sprinkling of some of the things most people do to a basic 1911 w/o going insane AND it's a series 70 system... which some say have a better trigger than the series 80 safety mechanism which most blame the firing pin blocking mechanism on the series 80 for making the trigger less than perfect.
So the series 70 is a more pure to the original 1911 trigger mechanism.
Ruger was one of the very few to go with a series 70, besides Colt retro line of re-released series 70 specific 1911's.
Ruger went with a titanium firing pin to lower the mass of the pin to help prevent drop fires that the series 80 firing pin block was an answer for.
Other brands,
Sooo many, depends what your looking for...
I really wanted something closer to the original 1911A1, and ended up with the Karh Arms AO1911A1 .. it's as close as you can get to the oringal WWII issue 1911A1 , but modern build.
No modern adders externally, on it what so ever and it goes for about 400 bux.
The only modern is the series 80 lawyer firing pin blocking.
And before anyone goes on about AO ... the Karh Arms AO is nothing like the AO of mis-fortune POS 1911 that were spare box built Franken 1911s POS.

What I like most about the SR1911 is how closely it echos the workings of a true 1911. I don't want a 1911 with an external extractor which rules out most sigs and smith and wessons. I can't get kimbers here in the Peoples Republic, para ordinance has many 1911's available here in MA, but I never seem to see any in the many LGS in my area and I don't personally know anyone with any experience with them so for now I'm not considering a para, I don't have much like for Remington's 1911 and the few other 1911's the state gives us permission to own are not made in the USA. I just can't bring myself to own a 1911 not made on my home soil. So that leaves me with the only logical option, which is the SR1911.

DAMN CA DOJ! SR1911 not certified to be sold here! I hope it will be soon cuz I would like to add it to my Ruger collection. IF not I really have to buy the next best thing the Kimber I was considering and it is pricier. :/ Oh well until next year since I am limiting myself to 3 guns till 2013.

I'm torn, I would jump on one if it were parked or blued..
I'm torn on SS ... love blued or park.
My GP100 and 101 are SS, but figured carrying them afield they would be better to be SS than blued.. my two K frames's finishes got clobbered from carrying and such.

I've been taking a hard look lately at the SR1911, but having a bit of difficulty finding one locally. Okay I haven't looked that hard, but I do like the features that are offered in this weapon and wouldn't mind owning one.
I'm not a fan of the Kimbers, but I have a friend that swears by them. He always makes fun of me for owning a Colt. That's okay with me, cause I make fun of him for owning Kimbers. I purchased one of the reproduction model 70 series Colts earlier this year and all I have to say is that it is one fine weapon.
Hope to find the SR1911 at the next gun show I attend. Who knows, if I find one it may follow me home.

Readers ( Ladies and Gents) ,
For about $100 more, I can buy an STI Spartan with adjustable sights and full-length guide rod.
Other than the "Made in USA" factor and cast frame....
What is it that makes the SR1911 soo popular and better than others ?
thanks

I've got the SR1911, an Ed Brown Molon Labe, a Colt Defender and a full sized 1911 I made myself from Wilson Combat parts. All are great guns. I've never shot a gun with a better trigger than the Ed Brown, but it costs a little more than the others. I really can't say one is more accurate than another. But I can say the SR1911 feels right at home in this crowd. Ruger hit it out of the park with the SR1911!

Yes, I love my GP-100s. | So instead of spending $100 more why not spend a couple hundred less and just buy the Armscorp without the sti name on it.
