Ruger usually will not issue a shipping label if the gun is over a year old. I contacted Mr. Fifer about an issue on a Single Six I had for years and never fired. The next morning I got a call from Ruger and got a shipping label.
I didn't buy it from my dealer. I bought from an individual and had it shipped to him.
I just talked to my buddy in Atlanta who is a friend of the guy I bought it from, and he says less than 300 rds have been put through it. The guy I bought it from bought it new in 1995.

Maybe I need to put a few boxes through it and see if things improve.

Did you do a function check on your pistol before you field stripped it to clean and lubricate it? I’d field strip it again and using any YouTube and available printed material carefully inspect everything as I reassembled it. If it’s the guide rod then why not go ahead and purchase the Galloway Precision guide rod, spring and trigger kit. I don’t know what part of TN you’re in or I’d recommend a decent gunsmith to you. As for sending it back to Ruger I probably wouldn’t either, all you need is someone a little savvier on the pistol then you are. That’s how you get to be a certified gun tinkerer.

Problem solved.

As you can tell, I am really upset with this gun.

As a builder of AK's and AR's since the AWB expired, I have had many, many stumbling blocks as this one, and solved all them through trail and error.

This is no different. I inspected the gun and found small machining burrs left over from when the gun was manufactured. These were on the muzzle end of the slide, inside the journey the barrel rides on. This caused the small ring on the top of the barrel.

I took a round diamond file (knife sharpener) and lightly filed this area, trying the function after each smoothing. The second go round fixed the problem. Now to lube the slide, etc.

I am a happy camper.

Thanks to everyone!!

It's the little things that get you some times. Gald you found it and was able to fix it. These are great guns. Mine runs flawlessly when I use it. But lately it's a safe Queen as I'm either using my SR9 ,Sr1911 or one of my MK's. But I'll never get rid of it. It was my first hand gun.

Yeah, little over looked things are monsters when you don't know what they are. I'm just glad no more $$ had to be put into the gun. More $$ for ammo.
