Accurate out of the box, don't plan to change anything.

Accurate and Point of Aim are two different things. I agree it is very accurate, however I'd like to be able to adjust for different reloads and conditions.

I have adjustable sights on all my 1911s but one was not adjustable until I had Kimber mill out and install an adjustable target sight on my STAINLESS II - so in effect it is now a STAINLESS TARGET II. The accuracy is indeed much better now with the adjustable sight and the better sight picture. Kimber charged me $200 to mill out my slide, install and test the adjustable factory target sight. It was well worth it in my opinion.

jrprich,
Thanks for the links, I've seen a couple of those but not all. I emailed Novak awhile back and they said that they did not have an adjustable that fit the SR1911, and that it would require milling.

Adjustable sights are something I'd want on any gun as well. I don't have a good relationship with fixed sights as they never work for me, nor do adjustable sights that have been set by somebody else.
I like a gun that adjust to me, rather than the other way around. A fixed sight pistol that drove me insane taught me the great importance of adjustable sights.

GMT | Interesting as when I contacted Novak they said they had rear sights that fit but their front sights would require fitting.
If you do some searching on 1911 forums you will find posts from several folks that have installed 3rd party rear sights on the Rugers without major work.

I have a fiber optic set on order from Fusion for my SR1911.
If they fit or not I will post up.
Not adjustable but Fusion does make an adjustable model, so if mine fit the adj. version should as well.

jrprich,
I spoke or wrote to fast, I asked novak if the lo-mount adjustable would fit the SR1911 and they said that it would require milling. They did not offer any information on the standard and I assumed, yeah I know, that it meant the slide cut was a special Novak for Ruger.

I got a set of adjustable sights for my SR1911. It's called a Springfield Range Officer.
Seriously, though, the stock sights on the SR are easily adjustable for windage. Just loosen the set screw in the Novak and tap right or left as needed with a brass punch or wooden dowel. Not a big deal at all. As for elevation, in a pinch, you could file down the front sight if you're shooting too low or the rear sight if shooting too high, but those are drastic measures I'd only consider if you were way off on elevation. It's much easier to get to a desired POI as far as elevation by experimenting with different weight bullets and loads. On my SR1911, I just adjust the hold as needed for elevation and can do just about as well with it as my Range Officer, anyway, as far as POI. Just a matter of getting to know the gun and where to hold.
Since my SR1911 was my very first 1911, it will remain just the way it came out of the box. Besides, the SR1911 was designed to be a utility, workhorse 1911 and the sights are appropriate for that role. Since most folks I know that get the 1911 bug end up with more than one 1911, you might want to just add another model with adjustable sights, as I did.
Keep in mind, if you change the rear sight to an adjustable sight, you may have to also change the front sight to match, unless the height of the rear sight is comparable to your old rear sight. Then, too, if you go to large, full target style adjustable sights, you may not like the way the gun catches on your clothing or hangs up in a holster. Love the sights on my Range Officer for target shooting, but when it comes to concealed carry or holster use, forget it. That's when I grab the SR1911.

I changed the rear sight on my SR1911 twice.
Each time the new sight had a "Novak base" but each still required some file work to fit to the Ruger. For some reason this seems the norm with sights. Not sure why gun and sight makers can't standardize the dovetail cut and the sight bases so a "Novak" sight base will fit any Novak dovetail..........but it seems they can't |

I just ordered the adjustable rear sight from Dawson Precision. It has a nice large flat rear face with serrations rather than the "coved" Novak style.
The specs say it will work with a stock height (.200) front sight.
I'll post some pics when I get it installed.
