| My First 1911 Question
Hey everybody, I've been around S/A & D/A revolvers, rifles & shot guns all my life. Recently I was in a position to purchase another handgun to add to my "family". After a little deliberation I decided to try something new at this stage of my "shooting career" Last May I ordered a Ruger SR 1911 from my LGS @ $659 + tax. I knew I was in for a significant wait for it to arrive but I'm OK with that. I picked the SR 1911 because I am a Ruger fan, my S/A's & D/A's are Rugers and everything that I found while researching my pick came up SR 1911 as the best choice for me.
I have no experience with an auto-loader...So while I am in the waiting period for the SR 1911 I wanted to educate myself in how it operates, learn where and how the safety's work, how to dis- & re-assemble it and the cleaning requirements, as well as, some shooting fundamentals to name a few.
My first 1911 question is...can my forum friends recommend any websites that can provide good information on the how to's and don'ts with 1911 pistols specifically the Ruger SR 1911 for a beginner?
Thanks for your time!

I've always like these types of videos to show how a weapon operates and everything that happens when you pull the trigger. |

It depends on what level of information you're looking for. There's lots of good stuff on 1911's on YouTube. But if you want the bible of 1911's I'd suggest Jerry Kuhnhausen's books or there's a beautiful coffee table sized book by Patrick Sweeney, both available through Amazon.com. Sweeney's book is mainly a beautiful pictorial while Kuhnhausen's tell you everything you need to know (and more) about working on them.

Hey guys, me again, thanks so much for responding with some really great resources to use to learn about auto-loaders! I loved the video!!! And the web site links are super! I can't wait to get some "play time" to go exploring...
I'm only 3 months into the wait for my SR 1911 so it looks like I'll have plenty of time to get up to speed.
Again many thanks for sending the information and for your time!

Wow, great info. I am in the midst of making the SR1911 plunge myself and find all of this to be very helpful.
Thanks.
Now to justify the $700+tax purchase price plus dies and components....

Now to justify the $700+tax purchase price plus dies and components.... | Just check out Ed Brown, Les Baer, Wilson Combat and even Springfield. That $700 is going to seem like chicken feed.

But when you look at the value you're getting at that price compared to what else is on the market, it's still a very good deal. Once you do make the jump and get it, you won't think about how much it cost for very long.
