| New Member new sr1911 ?
HI everyone.
Been lurking here for a while... got my sr1911 yesterday and have a question so I had to sign up.
The 8 round mag shots fine but does not lock back after the last round is fired it just re-chambers a ghost round. Did this on all three attempts.
The 7 round mag tries to double feed round 6 and 7 after round 6 is fired.
I am new to 1911's but not guns. Am I doing something wrong, have a magazine problem, or a gun problem?
Thanks in advance.

First, greetings from central Texas, hope you continue to enjoy the forums.
As to your question, I've never experienced an issue with my 1911 failing to lock back after the last cartridge is ejected. I've read some places that if you can rack the slide manually and it locks properly but then doesn't lock back with recoil after the last round, it may be a problem with the plunger spring. Again, this is just my thought. Other members may have more experience. If all else fails, send it back to Ruger.

That is sometimes a matter of limp wristing - not gripping firmly and solidly and locking the wrists while shooting. It happened to me, too, when I first started shooting 1911s. These guns like an aggressive stance and hold.

First, welcome to the forum. Congrats on your SR1911, hope you like it as much as I have - bought 3May11 two days after release, coming up on nine thousand rounds with no problems.
For your issue I can't offer much because had no problems with ten mags I've accumulated, six different brands including the rugers. I would echo what previous poster said about firm grip - you mentioned that you are new to 1911s but not new to guns, so the grip may be new for you. Need strong grip, up high against the beaver tail. Good luck, have fun.

Thanks for the answers. Yes this is my first .45 so maybe I just need to concentrate on the grip. I have 9mm and lots of long guns(and a 44mag SA) so that may be my issue. I felt like I was holding it strong but I will see after I put a few more mags through it.

Welcome! I bought my 1911 Tuesday...shot it Thursday. Awesome pistol. I had no trouble with the Ruger mags...matter of fact used 4 old mags I had from years ago, one of them a Colt, and had no trouble with them either.

welcome from nevada! i'm sure you'll continue to get even more good responses here. 1911s have been a hot topic lately (maybe always have been-- i only joined a couple months ago, but it seems there's always an informative 1911 thread going). enjoy!

I seem to recall the SR1911 has a recoil spring that is a couple pounds heavier than the typical 1911. I've never experienced the problems you describe with mine but I've only had it for about 8 months and perhaps 1,500 rounds. I would echo the grip advice. If you haven't already, go to Ruger's website and watch the entire video series "SR1911 Training Tips" - 10 short video segments that include lots of great info, including "Proper Grip".
Forgot to say welcome to the forum! Glad you found it - lots of great info here and nice folks too.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the SR1911. I've never had any problems with mine but you might want to inspect the magazine follower for damage or manufacturing defects on the 8-round mag, just compare it to the 7-rounder.
It also could just need to get broken in, I'd keep shooting it with the 8-rounder and see if the problem resolves itself. I'm by no means very experienced in 1911s as this is my first too, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.

My 1911 is a Remington R1, but I sure like the looks of the SR1911
