Is Ruger still MFG. the SR1911? My LGS still has not seen ONE. I've been waiting since Sept. 2011. Almost a full year. Should I give up? I saw a nice Springfield EMP the other day.

They are still making them. Believe it or not as you know they are still hard to find but more and more of them are hitting the shelves. Be patient and one will appear. It's well worth the wait. I waited nine months from the day they were announced to be released before I got mine.

I paid a little more at a mega store...and still waited a couple of months. Your patience will pay off as this is a fine pistol.

I feel lucky. I waited about 4 months for mine. IMO the SR1911 is worth the wait if and only if the SR1911 is the only 1911 that will float your boat. I held different 1911's from various manufacturers in different price ranges. The SR1911 is the "best" for me and I wouldn't be happier with a different 1911.
Series 70, Ruger, made in the USA, not ammo sensitive... what's not to like?
If you find a 1911 that you like just as much and it is immediately available for purchase, buy it.

Ditto on the GunBroker.com recommendation. I've bought a number of firearms using this site and have had a good experience every time. Most recent example - wanted to add an LCR to my collection but I wanted the model in 38 special +P that came with an XS front sight (model 5405). Davidson's was out of stock and none of the LGS in my area had that particular model. Found one on GunBroker.com and snapped it up. You will have to wait a few days to get your new baby and you will likely have to have it sent to an FFL holder and pay a transfer fee. But when you want something specific and hard to find it can be a very effective way of getting what you want. By the way, there are both used and new firearms listed so be careful to read and understand fully the listing description, payment terms, etc. In an auction setting it can be a bit of an adrenaline rush too!
Follow-up: Just went over to GunBroker.Com and there are no less than 24 SR1911s listed for sale, almost all are by dealers and are NIB (New in box). Glancing at the list the prevailing pricepoint seems to be around $700. Expect to pay something for shipping ($15 - $30) and to pay a transfer fee to your local FFL ($25 - $40 typical.) Most prices are "cash" - USPS money order or check and if the seller accepts credit cards there is a 2 - 3% surcharge added for using a card. This is why you look at the listing carefully - making sure it's NIB (unless shopping for a deal on a used gun) and seeing if you can find a seller that includes shipping and has no fee for using a credit card. Worst case scenario $700 for SR1911 + $30 shipping + $21.90 for using a credit card(3%) + $40 transfer fee = $791.90 and you have your SR1911 within a week! Also consider that buying an SR1911 in Latrobe, PA means 6% sales tax, or $700 + $42 = $742.00. At worst you may spend fifty bucks more. Look around and you may break even or be money ahead. I support my LGS whenever I can but you can't wait forever for your guy to come through.

I was on a list at two diff gun shops for over a year, matter of fact I got on the lists the day Ruger put them on the market. I got mine July 17th. It was worth the wait , what a sweet shooting gun.
I almost bought a Kimber but now glad I waited and saved $500 and have a gun just as good..

Found one sitting in the display case of my LGS here in S. Oregon last Monday. A bit spendy at $750, but it is mine now.
I'm working in N.Wash. this week. Sportsman's warehouse in Burlington has one hanging on the wall for $699.
I think they are starting to be a bit more available..

I was on a waiting list at two different store for over a year. I had money set aside specifically for my Ruger. I finally got tired of waiting and bought a Sig Nitron Rail 1911. Three days later, my LGS calls me up and tells me my Ruger has come in and asks if I still want it. I scraped together some cash and bought it. I have four 1911 pistols in .45ACP and this is my favorite to shoot. It does need to have a trigger job, however. 6.5 pounds out of the box, and still 6.5 pounds after 700 rounds, is just too much.

| SR1911's showing up at ACADEMY
Over the past few days I have seen SR1911's at two local Academy stores in SE Texas.
Academy is selling them for $699.
I already have an SR1911 which is my duty carry weapon, but was in Academy looking for a S&W Shield in .40 as my back-up and off duty weapon. They came in, but they were gone before I could get there to pick one up.
My local Academy also has the Remington R1 1911 for the same $699, and the Ruger wins hands down!

I bought mine on gunbroker.com June of 2011. Paid $750 and I've never regretted it.

Thanks, For all you input on the SR1911.
My LG Shops have quoted me $589.00 - $629.00 + 6% tax which put the final cost @ $624.34 - $666.74 and looking at Gunbrokers.com I will have to pay approx. $150.00 more after the transfer & shipping & I don't know if I'm willing to do that just yet. I know if I want it bad enough I will have to pony up the extra $$$$$$$$$.
Thanks again.

Its worth the wait , or like most say fork over the extra cash n get one now , If u shop u can get a fairly good price on them ,I ordered 4 in Nov 2011, have 2 so far,one in march n one in July , because I ordered 4 I got em fer 660.00 out the door, Still waiting on other 2 ,ITS ONE FINE PISTOL!,whats amazing one came in a case with white logos, the other red , the grips on one r a real blond colored wood, the other r very dark , likem both they pretty much both shoot the same no real difference there. [as long as I do my part] first one machining Is perfect , second one a little sloppy , like it got rushed out the door, its just cosmetic n really cant see it unless ur anal like me lol ,but all said n done, I dont think u can get a better made gun that shoots great n looks great , for the prices I have seen above,

"My LG Shops have quoted me $589.00 - $629.00 + 6% tax "
Nice quoted price but can they deliver?
MSRP is $799 and some dealers are getting pretty close to that or more. The old supply and demand principle still drives the market. This means right now prices are high but you would assume eventually supply will catch up with demand and prices will come down. Question is how long this will take. In your case it looks like at least a year or more. I found mine in a LGS last December and paid $738 + tax, if I recall correctly. I was thrilled just to find one so I wasn't necessarily hunting the best deal. In fact, I was kinda happy with myself for paying less than MSRP.
It's your money and only you can decide how long you're willing to wait versus how much you're willing to pay.
