They're all three good guns, but my choice between those is the SR1911, hands down.

I don't doubt the Ruger 1911 is just fine and it gets good marks on several forums I frequent. I have Sig Sauer (.45, .22LR) and STI (9mm) with no plans to change.

Not sure how you are defining "best", but I'd rate the SR1911 as one of the best buys on the market, given its features and the fact it is a completely made in the USA.

A 1911 is a wonderful thing and a joy to shoot. I've shot a Kimber and a friend's Colt that was throughly customized and dialed in to match grade performance. I found I shoot my SR1911 as well as the others, maybe better. On the plus side the price point is a real value - half the cost of the Kimber and a third the cost of the Colt. And the finish and grips are beautiful - the nicest looking of the three I mentioned.
I realize I'm not comparing the three you mentioned - sorry, but I don't have first hand experience with the other two. My SR1911 is one of my favorites and I always get lookers coming to check it out whenever I go to the range. You won't be disappointed with an SR1911...if you can just get your hands on one! |

Thanks biggun | Not an equal comparison. What you are doing is like comparing a Chevy to a Buick to a Taurus. You mention a specific Ruger model, yet fail to state a specific Sig or S&W for comparison. I own two American-made 1911s, a Ruger SR1911 and a Sig 1911 XO. Both are very good guns for their price points. One has a stainless finish, the other has a black finish. I will say that the detailing on the Sig is a bit more refined, of course, that is reflected in the price. That is not to say that the Ruger is not a very good pistol, but some of the parts are not of the same standard as of the Sig. Both are tack drivers, and will eat through ammo like nobody's business. Some 1911 purists don't like the slide design on the Sig, but rather prefer the design of the Ruger.
The "best" one is the one that you prefer. If you find a nice 1911, at a good price point for you, get it. Good luck
YMMV.

This may stir up a bit of a hornet's nest; but i just cant help it. Most any 1911 ya buy today is going to do a good job. The current crop of 1911's from reasonable prices (...say 550 600 dollars...) up to the stratosphere will all do a good job. The reason; CNC tooling.
I've never owned a 45acp 1911 that wouldnt shoot better than i could hold. I see the "best" 1911 thing as a "bragging rights" type thing and pride in favorite brand thing more than a genuine "the best is the best" thing. I will grant that as ya go up the dollar spectrum the parts get better, but i see that as a "diminishing returns" issue as well.
The bottom line; pick the one you like at the price you are willing to pay. Dont worry about "made in amerika" unless ya like that sort of thing. I predict that you will be pleasantly surprized at the results with your new 1911.
My favorite; STI Spartan. The spartan for $600 is what the old colt gold cup used to be for $500 in the seventies.

The SR1911 I own was bought over a year ago and now has close to 3000 rounds down the tube. A few days after I got it, my son and I went to a shooting competition where I and the unmodified gun took 1st place against some real high tech weapons. It had been shot less than 100 rounds when we left, just enough to confirm the sights were on target and the gun worked.
Buy the SR1911.

I know this is Ruger forum but I don't think anything beats a Kimber as far as 1911s. Had one for years now (Kimber Eclipse Target II). It is all match grade out of the box, people compete with them as they are. Kimber pays great attention to detail, example check out the front strap checkering. Kimber America | Eclipse Target II
But with any 1911 make sure you have a big wallet for ammo or get into reloading.

Go find a SR1911 put it in your hand, BINGO! They are well built and run right out of the box.. I bought mine today, 759 out the door.. I traded a Kimber Tac ll Custom for a 35 year old Model 29 S&W. The Ruger shoots just as well or better than the Kimber I had. Just check one out if you can find one..
