I had the same decision to make awhile back. After getting many replies here, I went with the majority and bought the SR9c. Not once have I had buyers remorse. Easy to cc, awsome trigger that just keeps getting better, and using the 17 rnd. mag. gives it the feel of the SR9. My vote goes to the 9c. You won't be sorry.

I have carried with The 17 rnd. mag.and no it doesn't wobble. I use a leather Pro-carry deep comfort IWB. The gun fits snug and slides out smooth.

A little bit, but you have to shake it pretty fast, with normal movement, IWB, i dont think it would wobble

I guess I really need to just get my hands on a P95 to actually compare it to the sr9. Next time i go to the range ill have to rent a sr9 to see if I actually like it. Im used to shooting the beretta m9 for qualification purpose and I shot expert with it. I just need to experiment I supposed.

A little different direction

I have an SR40C... I LOVE that gun. I keep it in a SpeedVault with a 15-round clip concealed in the bedroom for HD most of the time. While I think it is very controllable it does have pretty healthy recoil - perhaps as much as my much smaller Beretta Nano. Here is my question... what is the recoil difference between the SR9 and the P95, or is there any? Also, I'm curious about the recoil spring tension and strength needed to operate the slide vs the SR40C (SR9)?

Why do I want to know you may ask... I'm considering getting a P95 for a few reasons. I'd like to put a gun in my SpeedVault that I think my wife could operate easier than my SR40C. I'm not going to use my SR22P for home defense and the Nano is more of a carry gun than a HD gun and has limited capacity. My Security Six is too big to fit, otherwise I'd use it loaded with 38 specials. Besides, a revolver has more of a capacity issue than the Nano. We have grandkids that visit and I keep the shotguns in the safe, so they're not handy.

I've heard, but not experienced that the P95 is a very light recoiling 9mm and is very dependable (after the magazine springs are broken in). I understand the recoil spring isn't supposed to be so heavy it makes operating the slide hard to do. Another consideration for me, while I know they aren't exact, it would be close enough to my SR22P it would make the little 22lr a good practice gun for a P95.

I'm sure the SR9 operates basically identically to the SR40C. I'm afraid it would have some of the same charactoristics that make me nervous about my wife being able to use the SR40C in an emergency. So I wouldn't see any advantage of getting one of those (other than having another Ruger).

If she ever decides she wants a gun of her own - whatever she chooses will probably end up in the SpeedVault. In the meantime I'd like to have one that is at least similar to the SR22P that I can get her to shoot occasionally. Besides, for a gun that won't really be a replacement - I won't mind saving a $100 as long as it's reliable (besides - it's still a Ruger).

My gf handles the sr9 well. I was testing out some hot reloads, new recipe so I brought 100 with me to go through real quick before sunset, after we shot rifle for a while. Well I just got these bad guy targets also, just a picture of a person from the waist up with a gun. Well we both did some rapid fire drills, going back and forth between one set at 20 yards and the other at 15 yards. Out of 100 we only missed about 6 or 7, mostly right next to the head, she had 1 or 2 below the waist that would still be a hit in reality. For the most part, I think the SR9 is easy to handle for females, I mean shes recoil shy so when it comes to the SP101 she only does .38spls, and with hot 9mm reloads, she did pretty well. I go to the range about 3-5 times a month and she probably goes 1 or 2 so thats pretty good, as I said, we were just shooting off as fast as possible and counting the hits after every mag, she got a good amount of spine shots.

Weight is 26.5oz (SR9) vs 27 (P95), With the added weight of 2 rounds, I'd say close to equal. The SR9 is a low bore axis pistol, not too sure about the P95 but I would think that the SR9 handles better but it could be equal. If you want a hammer fired gun or want to save $80, I'd definitely say the p95 is a good choice. The SR9 was just my first pistol, always operated 100% for me, and I love the feel so I'm biased.

Both are Great Ruger Handguns

I currently own both the P95 and the SR9. Both shoot great at the range. The best thing is to go a range that allows gun rental and make your own judgement. The SR9 has a thinner profile and has an adjustable backstrap that allow you to customize the grip. It also has an ajustable rear sight, and it also holds two more rounds than the P95. The P95 does offer single/double action and the decocker is a nice extra. The SR9 is only double action. The grip seems to be little bigger around and a little shorter in length than the SR9. Both fit well in my hand but I do prefer the feel of the SR9 grip. Field stripping the SR9 is a little easier than the P95. The SR9 is easy, just bring the slide back and lock it open and pop out the pin. The P95 has marks that you have to line up to get the pin to pop out. It is a little tricky but not impossible.

One last thing, the tension springs in the magazines are really different. The SR9 magazine spring is really tight and make it a little hard to load unless you are using the supplied magazine loader. I like this because it guarantees the next bullet will load correctly. The P95 magazine springs seems to be a little looser. I was kinda worried about possible loading problems when firing my P95 but have never had an issue yet. Both have fired multiple brands of ammo with no misfires.

These are just a few of my observations. Like I said above, both are great to shoot and own, you can't go wrong with either one. I recommend getting the stainless finish if you pick the P95. I own the blued version, not liking it too much. I have the stainless version of the SR9, it is alot easier to take care of.

My other guns include a Ruger 10/22 Stainless/Synthetic Stock with Scope which I'm starting to customize, and a Glock 19 & 21 both Gen 4. I want to buy a Mark III next to go plinking with. The Ruger 1911 is also calling my name. It is a beautiful pistol with a great price.
