What prevents ruger from putting a slide stop (open) on last round fired

I'm curious, other are curious and my wife wants the slide to stay open on last round fired on the LCP and so do I .
I know many shooters that have chosen other Self Defense guns because their slide remains open following the last shot.
What Say You, Ruger, Why can't you make this happen?

What particular semi-auto Ruger model are you aware of where the slide DOES NOT remain open after the last shot if the gun is in proper working condition???

Ah, the LCP appears to be the only one. OP certainly has many other (and better?) choices for a Ruger SD gun, just a matter of picking one that has the last round hold open that appears near and dear to him.

Yes, on the LCP.
It's difficult to hide a 9mm in the summer wearing shorts and very light clothing. Much easier for most guys then for the ladies.
It's just that the LCP is very concealable and hardly leaves a print.
At 5'2" my wife says she doesn't want a Dog Leg hanging on her side or in her small hand bag.

Have you both looked at the LC9? Its really not that much bigger than the LCP.

EDIT: Why do you need the slide to stay open on the last round? Quicker reloads?

So you know the thing is empty without having to count rounds or pull the trigger on an empty chamber

My wife has small hands and with the LC9 being larger and more recoil the LCP fits her hands better and has less recoil with the Hogue grip, Wolff springs and Pearce grips.
I have .22's and .38 revolvers and the LCP still feels best to her.
With the slide staying open no one has to GUESS how many rounds have been fired in a Bad Guy situation.
At the range it doesn't matter.
Almost all Auto's have a slide that stays open which becomes Habit looking down to see when chamber is empty.
With my XD I hve gotten used to a certain feel it gives me when it chambers open on last round.

Makes sense. I know what you mean by the feel of the gun with the slide open. Your only option may be lots of practice to develop some mental/muscle memory to know when you're empty. Or maybe a different gun.

The LCP doesnt have a last shot hold open. Your not going to be able to make the slide stay open easily because it isnt designed for one. Im not saying its impossible, but its not worth the trouble and expense to make it happen. You have 7 shot available with the LCP. Its not a service weapon where you are going into battle with it, where fast reloads need to be available. Its a close up gun, and if you need more than 7 shots... well... I dont know what to tell you. Making a slide stop for the LCP is a waste of time IMHO. Sorry.

I've got both an LCP and an LC9, and I do miss the slide stop holding open after the last shot. I also have an older Colt Mustang, which is about the same size as the LCP (but MUCH heavier) and it's slide stop hold open after the last shot.

No telling why Ruger didn't choose to make the LCP's slide stop hold open after the last shot, but it probably had to do with making the pistol less complicated and thus more reliable. In truth, the slide stop on my Mustang (which I rarely shoot these days and NEVER carry) often didn't hold open, even though it was designed to. Even the LC9's slide stop fails to hold open from time to time. It must be something with the smaller semi-auto's.

A major design flaw, sorry to say. I NEVER want to hear 'click' when I expect 'POW'! I chose a TCP for pocket carry due to this, and I wanted a SS slide. It has been 100% reliable and never failed to stay open when empty. It is made in the USA, and is a fine little package for $300. Now I have my eye on a 740 Slim.

All my other 'modern' handguns are Rugers and I own RGR stock. So... it's my way to "spread the wealth around".

+1 to the above on the Taurus 738 TCP. I bought 1 instead of another LCP & so far, so good. A little update, the all black model is now $199 MSRP.

I have to agree. This is one of the main reasons I sold my LCP.
