I have learned to count when I am at the range with my LCP. I don't know if I could do that in a SD situation or not. But, I will hang on to my Elsie.

The kel-tec 3pat, of which the LCP is a carbon copy doesnt have a last shot hold open, thus, the LCP doesnt.... As to why kel-tec decided not to include it? My guess is cost/simplicity, since kel-tec is all about making them as low cost as possible so they can sell them cheaper....

That is just one of the reasons I do not like the LCx series.

Even though the LC9 does lock back, it still has the same looks and trigger that I do not like. My friend likes his but I would prefer a striker fired option in this size category from Ruger. An SR series in single stack at that size would interest me.

My wife is also about 5'2" and she carries a GP100 4" SS .357mag with full power Hornady Critical Defense loads in her purse. You may want to look at something other than Ruger(blasphemy I know ) for her carry piece.

I havent held a shield yet, but the trigger on my bodyguard .380 is sweet..... If I decide to go back to a 9mm for carry, that will be it...

That's a reason the LCP has never been on consideration list. My only .380 is my Sig P238. It's pricey but small, accurate and full featured. It's pretty much the same as the Colt Mustang but it works! |

Unless the OP's wife anticipates being in an extended gun fight, she will probably never empty the magazine anyway. I really don't see this as an important issue with this type of weapon. If it is something that she can't overcome with practice, trade it for another gun with the desired features.
The choices are many but, my wife chose a Kahr P380. The trigger and the sights far out class my LCP. It has the hold open for the last shot as well. I liked hers so well that I ordered one for myself. Be certain to follow the recommended break in procedure in the manual, otherwise you might have problems.

I bought a Shield 9mm about two weeks after it was released. It is one sweet pistol. The trigger is awesome. For my .40 needs, I still have my Taurus PT740 Slim in that size category. I have had that for almost two years and has been totally reliable with zero issues or failures. I'm looking at the XDs but would jump on Ruger offering.

I know many shooters that have chosen other Self Defense guns because their slide remains open following the last shot.
What Say You, Ruger, Why can't you make this happen?
saltair | Why not go to the Ruger website and "Tell the CEO" about your issue?

I figure if I get to the point that I have to reload, I am in more trouble than 6 more rounds of .380 is going to get me out of anyway...
A last shot hold open is great for training, but on the other hand not having it on one of these little guns might be even better when you think about it... If you arent counting rounds the empty chamber will take you by surprise and be an instant indicator if you are anticipating the shot.... I like to mix a snap cap randomly into my wifes mags and watch her drop the muzzle as she thinks its about to fire, only to be surprised when it doesnt go boom and realise how badly she anticipates the shot.... and she wonders why she hits the plates the first few times, and then suddenly cant hit them...
