| Brand New SR40c sent back to Ruger for service :(
I just purchased a new Ruger SR40c about a week ago. I really liked the feel of the gun when i rented and shot at my local range. They offered me a great deal on one so I decided to buy it for my everyday carry. I am just starting to shoot and carry a pistol, so im a beginner at this. I was very excited about carrying this gun, until:
First Trip to range: Using Winchester 165 gr. FMJ
After first 14 shots slide stayed locked back as if mag was empty (1 bullet still left in mag). Whats that about??
Switching to my smaller 9 round mag, after 2 shots fired, trigger did not reset. I had to remove mag, clear the chamber, and discovered the bullet from the chamber had a light mark as if it had been striked lightly. This is happeneing very often. (WHY???)
Now I'm starting not to trust this gun. I couldnt even shoot 50 rounds problem free.. heck not even 3 rounds problem free with that trigger not resetting.
I just sent the gun in today for service, I am a little upset because i spent 500 dollars on a gun that does not work (new). I wanted to believe Ruger made good quality guns, but....(???)
Any advise? Comments?

call ruger and tell them about your problem, they will email you a shipping label to send the gun back for repairs, they do this so you dont have to pay the shipping. customer service is great and you will have your gun back within two weeks. i had to send my sr9c in for the trigger not resetting and this is what they did for me. took a week and 1 day from the time i sent the gun out til the time i got it back, they keep you updated on the status. a few weeks after getting my gun back i also recieved another package from ruger with a free hat from customer service department i believe it was.

First standard question - Did you clean the shipping grease out of the action? If not it will gather all kinds of gritty crap and plug things up.

Thanks for the advice guys,
I did have the gun broken down and cleaned before my 2nd range trip. My local gun smith said upon breaking it down, he did not see a reason as to why it was light striking. I did contact Ruger and they sent me a label yesterday to have it overnighted to them. I was told there would be a 7 to 10 business day turn around. Im impatiently waiting....

Sorry folks but my experience with Ruger customer service and quality is very poor indeed.
I have purchased 2 two new Rugers from a local dealer, an LC9 and an SR22P. The LC9 was sent back for the same problems that have been widely discussed already on the forum after owning for just one month. It took 3 weeks and 5 days to get it back repaired. The good news is no problems since.
The SR22P was worse than imaginable. I had the pistol for just 24 hours before returning it to the dealer. They put 2 rounds through it and took it back saying something was seriously wrong with it. I documented shipping dates, phone conversations, and what I was told during the entire process. It took six weeks to get a new gun because the original was unrepairable. But it took 3 phone calls to customer service beginning in week 4 (I did exercise a degree of patience). I was given wrong ship dates twice and did not recieve anything. Finally they offered that they would have to ship a new pistol afterall. Why six weeks to get a new gun? Who knows.
I wrote I long letter to Ruger with great detail explaining my poor expeience with both pistols and their spotty service record. I got nothing from them. Not even a letter in response. I don't sell my guns but neither will I ever purchase another Ruger again.

This sounds acceptable to me, especially after hearing of other companies taking up to 6 months to do a repair on a pistol. Keep in mind that you are not the only gun there that they have to give attention to. I have had a gun repaired and replaced before as well, and the entire process took a little over 8 weeks, and I was happy that they solved the problem by replacing my defective gun with one that has been 100%.

$500 for an SR40c? I see them for $350. I'd be more upset at the price.

I also just bought an SR40c last week, and Ruger already has it because of the trigger not resetting as well. When I field stripped in, the ejector was quite hard to push down in order to remove slide. I think that is where my problem lied. Anyways, I too love the feel of the gun, and will definitely stick with it.
Hopefully when I get her back there are no more issues.

Allfat-I am complaining about buying two new guns that needed to be sent back for a variety of problems which I chose not to overly elaborate on. It is bad enough when you purchase any gun that is defective let alone buy two from the same manufacturer within a two month period of time and both are unusable.
I am commenting on the frequent posts regarding Ruger's great customer service which was not the case for me. Too many posts on here suggest 2-3 week turnarounds. Just wasn't my experience with two repair jobs. Further, I frequently hear that companies appreciate feedback, both good and bad from customers. When I took the effort to write a letter to customer service it didn't even illicit a response.

They have always got back with me very quickly. I have nothing but praise for Rugers CS. But then I've only had Rugers for 30+ years. I have a friend that is an PD armorer for a large PD and said Ruger and Glock are the best people of any of the gun makers to deal with. He rates Remington the worst.
