I need a hug. New LC9

Well I picked up my LC9 yesterday. Took it to the range and set up at 7 yrds indoor. Long heavy trigger pull only took about 3 rounds to get the feel for it and I dont mind it. I like that I won't accidently send one down my pant leg while digging for my keys.
My problem is that I had a 50% FTE rate. Shootign winchester Whit Box.
I called it a day after about 20 FTEs and ran buck by my local gun store for a look see. They had same issues with the WWB ammo. However a diff load ran flawlessly. The reson I need a hug is because my range ammo cost just went up by about 35%

OK I feel better now.

Have you tried Fed Champion stuff? $12 per box, $21 100 pack if you can find it?

Congratulations! I bought mine yesterday at a local gun show. Its a LC9-LM with the LaserMax Centerfire laser sight. They were selling like pancakes! Two different dealers' tables were sold out of them the first 3 hours of the show!

I've yet to get it out to the range. I have a box of Winchester 9mm NATO 124 Gr FMJ to run through it before I try any hollow points. I'm anxious to see how it handles compared to my East German Makarov shooting 9x18mm.

Its going to be my first experience with a DAO pistol so I suppose its going to have some "getting used to".

Good luck with yours.

Yeah, It ain't like shooting that Mak. I have a Mak and it shoots like a champ, has an easy SA trigger pull. Now the DA trigger is a bear to pull but I have got it smoothed up after a few years of shooting . Congrats on the LC9, I love mine and have grown accustom to the trigger. It even gets better the more you shoot it.

If your near a Cabela's, Herter's 115g 9mm is $9.99 a box(online price) with free shipping to the store or your home if you use your Cabela's Club Visa
( I do!)
Plan "B" might be Freedom Munitions. Excellent fast service, quality ammo, very fair price.

I have always liked Federal when available, it's hard to get at the Walmarts around here. Good luck with the LC9, mine has been great!

Dry-fire drills with that laser will really help with the trigger pull. Get steady on a target with the laser & you can see if your pulling it off your point-of -aim. The trigger really smooths out. After over 1000 rounds & that many dry-fires, mine is very smooth.

Havent had a single ftf/fte with my LC9. just the sight problems. New slide is due to arrive tuesday. added all the galloway goodies and the trigger pull is now a dream. I shoot the blazer range ammo and it works AOK for me. Good luck!

I've put 150 Sellier and Bellot 124gr FMJ through without any issues. At $0.20/round it's not to bad.

Did you do the trigger yourself? I've been thinking about it.

When you say "FTE", do you mean "failure to extract" (case left in chamber) or "failure to eject" (case extracted from the chamber but not fully ejected - the dreaded "stovepipe")?

Failure to extract is usually a problem with the (surprise!) extractor - if it doesn't get an adequate "bite" on the extraction groove, it can leave a case in the chamber, especially if the chamber is a bit rough. This can vary from brand to brand and even lot to lot, as extraction grooves and case expansion vary - often significantly.

Failure to eject can be caused by a lot of things, including (but not limited to) weak ammunition, thumb drag on the slide, roughness of the slide bearing surfaces (which often works out with more use), ejector too short...the list goes on.

If you're having failure to extract, the first thing I'd do is remove the slide from the pistol and then take a fired case and see if the extractor is getting an adequate bite on the groove. On the LC9, the outside surface of the extractor should be pretty much parallel with the side of the slide when a case is present. Look at the extractor and case from below - there should be a little daylight between the bottom edge of the case and the extractor. If there isn't, the extractor needs replacing.

Failure to eject - as you might guess - takes more work to diagnose. Since your pistol functions with other brands of ammunition, its likely the ejector is working fine. Assuming that you've also eliminated your thumb as the culprit, you may simply have gotten a box (or two) of ammo that isn't quite powerful enough to work the slide adequately. Try another box of the White Box ammo and see if it works any better - you might also try putting a small amount of grease on the slide rails to see if that helps.

Hope this helps.

Jim

Same thing happened to me with wwb in my lc9. It was a crappy batch and the brass had a sticky brownish black residue on it. Ran a bunch of ammo through her before the fte's and thought that was the issue, but it was def the wwb. I have run almost every off the shelf brand ammo i can find though it about 900rds, and every single one has gone bang, and only the1 box of wwb didn't eject properly.

My LC9 likes WWB just fine. As suggested, maybe you got a crappy box. Try another from a different store so you don't get more from the same lot...
