Congrats on the gun!
WOW! 2 years? Is that really how scarce the SR1911 is (I am assuming you are talking about the Ruger)? Heck, I know I've held one and seen two in my LGS. Never shot a 1911, are they really all that and a bag of chips? Everyone talks about the 1911 like it's the $#!t that killed Elvis. I may have to try one.

It is indeed a SR1911, and the first one that came in for me about a year ago I had to refuse because I had just gotten out of the hospital and didn't have the coin. Needless to say, I have been looking forward to this for awhile now.

I assume you mean a SR1911?
Congrats, I sure the long wait will be worth it.
I know it felt like a two year wait. They were released in April 2011 so it's been a little over a year. I waited about 9 months.

I bought mine from a store in the next town over. Twenty mile drive. They have sold several. Didn't have to special order it. It was just sitting on their shelf waiting for me when I walked in. A bigger store farther away gets in one a week. Don't understand why you had to wait two years. You should have been able to find one sooner than that.

I know it may seem like 2 years, it seemed that long to me, but the SR1911 has only been available since the weekend of May 1st 2011. Ruger made the announcement at the 2011 NRA annual meeting which ended on May 1st. I put an order in for 2 on Tuesday 5/3/11 (1 for me, 1 for my dad). My LGS called me on 6/26/12 to ask if i still wanted an SR1911. It's a 50 mile trip, each way, so I had to wait until the next day to pick it up. That 1 day was really long. This is the only gun, before of since, I've gotten this excited about. I would have never believed it would take 14 months to get one. I visit a lot of shops down here and can count on 2 hands the number of SR1911's the shops have seen and I can't find one that has ever put one in the case.
I will say that all but one of them have been sold at less than $675 out the door. That "one" was sold for $750 but he is at least 25% higher on everything anyway so it has nothing to do with availability.

Well, at long last, here it is. It came with a nice pistol rug and two mags, as well as a barrel bushing wrench. Overall it seem pretty tight and well made, can't wait to post some braggin' sized groups. Stay tuned... |

Finally got out to shoot the 1911 yesterday. First shot was almost dead center in the X ring, and the rest of the session was just as good. This thing is tight as the skin on an onion, with a great trigger and excellent sights. Even my
66 year old eyes could see Them, just fine.
I had two FRB jams during the course of my shooting, but it was a function of the ammo rather than the pistol. I had loaded some 454 .45 colt bullets for a convertible revolver that I have, and wanted to see if they worked in the Ruger. Long story short, they didn't.
It ate everything else in fine fashion, though. This thing is a keeper! Anybody want to buy a Kimber?
