Not sure but I have 4000 rounds of regular thru my SR9C. I think Ruger can take any ammo as long as it is listed in the manual.

From Page 14 of the Ruger SR9c Owner's Manual:
The SR-SERIES pistols are compatible with all factory ammunition of the
correct caliber loaded to U.S. Industry Standards, including high-velocity and
hollow-point loads, loaded in brass, aluminum, or steel cartridge cases. No 9mm
Parabellum or .40 S&W ammunition manufactured in accordance with NATO,
U.S., SAAMI, or CIP standards is known to be beyond the design limits or known
not to function in these pistols. (emphasis mine)
As long as it's got an official design specification (handloads excepting, of course) go ahead and use your favorite +P+ ammo to your hearts content. You got yerself a Ruger. |

I've gone through a number of bricks of primers with mine with a top loading of Accurate #7, 124 and 147 grain Berry's and Rainier copper plated. With those stout loadings it reliably keeps most hits within the black of a 50 yard NRA Slow Fire bull with mixed brass; certainly not anything you'd classify as match grade. I've fired countless factory +Ps in mine, and though not quite as accurate as my rolled, digested them nicely. The gun wears like iron, too, and it's not a gun I baby. I've carried it daily since it first came out, and the only wear it shows are slightly shiny corners on the rear sight. It's one rugged, dandy, good looking, sure fire pistol that has never--not even once--done anything except fire when I pull the trigger and spit brass in a 4 foot circle, 15 feet away. It barely even needs a cleaning after that loading, too.

Considering there is NO SAAMI, or CIP, standards for +P+ ammo, I'm not sure that the manual will assist you.
Just what do you think that +P+ ammo will give you that +P, or even standard pressure, will not?

Yes you can use +P ammo. Do not use +P+ ammo as it has way too high of pressure. The +P ammo has slightly higher pressure than standard ammo and the slide will recoil a little harder/faster. You will feel a little more recoil and the gun will wear out a little sooner than with standard ammo. You would have to use a lot of +P to really do any major wear or damage to your gun. I carry CorBon +P 115gr in my LC9. It has 1350fps and 470ft lbs energy. I shoot a few rounds at the range, ever time I go, just to be used to it. Too expensive for target ammo. All CorBon ammo is great for SD. My LC9 manual states that "Although the Ruger LC9 is capable of functioning with 9mm +P ammunition, a steady diet of +P ammunition will shorten the endurance life of the Ruger LC9."

A +P+ has no SAAMI specification, thus you do not know what you are actually getting.

I've got one for every Ruger I own. Just go to the SR9 page and click on extras and you'll see the pdf version of the manual there to download. Oops I didn't see the other posts with the same info.

There are no SAAMI specs for +p+, stick to what the manual says. I wouldn't suggest a steady diet of +p either.
How much is second shot target acquisition affected by use of non-SAAMI spec ammo?
YMMV

So where does the NATO ammo fit in? Is it +P or +P+ or somewhere else?
