I have been thinking of getting an LC9 but have read of some problems with them. Tell me what you like or don't like about the LC9.
Is recoil manageable?
How is the trigger?
Does it seem dependable?
Will it shoot most ammos?
Have you had any problems?
I have an SR9c and luv it, but not sure about the LC9.

I traded my LC9 after I got an M&P Shield. The LC9 was reliable but the trigger was horrid and I didn't care for the hideous LCI. A good gun, but not ideal for a carry gun.

I've had two Ruger polymer guns and had problems with both which required return to Ruger.
That's unacceptable with SD/HD guns, and I no loger rely on either.
Considering the problems with the LC9 it's not where I'd spend my money.

I want to love the LC9. It's the perfect size and caliber for what I want to do. But, It's gonna take a little while longer to become accurate with it. I guess due to the trigger. Recoil is no problem at all. First time out, the front sight drifted out a bit. I drifted it back and hasn't moved since. No issues firing, but after inspecting the brass the strikes appear to be light. I'm not giving up on it yet.

I wanted one since it looks like a baby SR9 but the stores around here too forever so I ended up getting the SP101 instead. Seems like a good alternative and with certain ammo, the gun can really hit hard even with a 2in compared to the 9mm. Seems like the trigger is the worse part of the LC9 from what I've read, even with an external safety, they still left it long as can be

I have an SR9c and luv it, but not sure about the LC9. | I own an LC9 and the LCP, both with the LaserMax. Both have performed flawlessly for me with various ammunition. Both do exactly what they were designed to do and do it well. I am a long time [many years] CCW, and concealment is a primary concern for me. I do not consider myself to be either an expert shot or an expert on guns period .... but I have shot thousands of rounds through various handguns and rifles over the course of several years. What one person considers acceptable concealment another will not. For me the LC9 is more concealable, or at least more easily concealed, than is the the SR9C. But there are times I will carry my LCP rather than the LC9 for no other reason than the fact that the LCP is more easily concealed than is the LC9. What is "concealed" in the mind of one person is too much bulge for another person.
If trigger pull is the paramount consideration, your SR9C would be a better choice for some. Shorter. Lighter. Different design, different worlds. For me, the LC9's [and LCP's] lighter weight, smaller size, and "double action only" trigger was what I wanted. It's great .... IF that is what you want and you're willing to spend the time and ammunition to accustom yourself to it. But it is definitely different from what most semi-automatic pistol users have been used to. Much more like a wheel gun's trigger pull. Not bad ... just different.
Recoil? The LC9 has a sting to it. Certainly noticeable, but definitely manageable .... for most shooters. The smaller and lighter LCP shares many characteristics with the LC9. Adding a Hogue grip sleeve [model 18100] improved the LCP for me, but a similar grip sleeve is, to the best of my knowledge, not available [at least for now] for the LC9. If such a grip sleeve was available for the LCP I would add it.
So, bottom line, it all boils down to a personal preference issue. For what I, and many others, want the LC9 is a great choice. For others, not so great. The issue isn't the gun itself. The issue is personal preference[s]. |

Is recoil manageable?
Yes
How is the trigger?
Long dbl action late break. Safe, good for carry, bad for range.
Does it seem dependable?
Yes, more than 1000 rounds through one and 100 through the other.
Will it shoot most ammos?
I've fired bulk, federal, hornady. The only problems have been bulk loaded hollow points jamming on the ramp, mostly with the first round.
Have you had any problems?
Bulk load hollow points jamming
One of the frame pins is a little loose but stable.
Rear sight moved on the one with 1000+ rounds, tightened it.
A real challenge to group shots with that trigger, reminds me of a revolver.
Still carry it, prefer it, haven't picked up an M&P yet but I have little desire to do so. Great gun, good price. You could do much worse.

Prior to the LC9, much of my shooting was with a revolver. Except for sometimes issue with my trigger finger rubbing the trigger guard I don't have a problem with the trigger pull. I'm overcoming the finger problem with practice and building muscle memory. The LC9 gives me what I am looking for in concealability (pocket carry is my preference). With the pocket carry, I like how I can escalate my readiness without exposing the weapon. If the M&P had been available when I purchased the LC9 maybe I would have made a different choice. The Beretta Nano didn't feel as good in my hand. At this point I like what I have in the LC9 and intend to stick with it.

I was forced to trade mine in for a Kel-Tec PF-9 that turned out to be a much more accurate & reliable weapon. Everyone I speak to regularly at my gun club has HAD, at some point or another, an LC-9 but ended up trading up for something else due to inherent reliability & accuracy problems. I think it was a great concept but in my opinion Ruger just shouldn't try to copy others designs, it does nothing but "cheapens" the "Ruger" name. I am glad to see they made at least one good one though! |

Have you shot one?
I was thinking about the LC9 when looking for my CC weapon.
Went to the range and rented one.
Grip was awkward due to the small, thin grips.
Mussel flip was manageable, but difficult.
Trigger was horrible. Long, hard, not terribly smooth.
Accuracy was fine.
Bottom line was, it would probably do what I needed it to for CC, but would probably consider practicing with it a chore.
I decided on the SR9c. I find that it conceals well for me. I enjoy shooting with it at the range. It is not as accurate as my target .22, but then I wouldn't expect it to be.

Have had the LC9 for about a month. Ran about 400 rounds through it--no FTF. The front sight did drift off center--Ruger sent me a complete new slide with the front sight pinned. The accuracy is fine and the recoil controllable- easy to take down and clean-Do not like the long trigger pull but do like the concealability--use a crossbreed super tuck holster--do not feel the holster or the LC9--usually carry 16 hrs per day. Not a target gun for me. At 50 ft--horrible at 20 ft good enough. Like the reviews on the M&P Shield.
