LC9 issues/answers and praise for Ruger CS

I bought a NIB LC9 a few weeks ago. (SN 321-80XXX)
Although I was slightly concerned about the looseness of the slide I was quite pleased with it on the first range trip. On the second trip I started missing wildly to the left and right.
A quick look revealed that with every shot the front sight moved to the other end of the dovetail.
Having read posts on this forum on this subject, I wasn't too upset but I didn't look forward to calling CS, packing up the pistol and shipping it and receiving it back so I jumped on the Website and used the "Contact Us" section to ask for advice about the sight.
In just a few hours, I got an email saying that a new slide would be shipped in 10 -15 business days with a return mailer for the original.
In fact, the slide (with a pinned sight) arrived after only 6 business days.
After a quick cleaning I put the new slide on and immediately noticed that the play in the slide was gone.
The increased tightness showed up as two RTB failures on the first mag but the next 150 rounds have been flawless.
Thanx to CS for the fast and easy service!

LC9 issues and Praise

I have been interested in the LC9 can you say more about it?
How is the recoil, the trigger, accuracy, how does it feel in the hand?

Would appreciate it.

Pretty good amount of recoil.

Trigger sucks, way to long to break point.

Accuracy is great, if you can hold the gun steady through long pull....I tend to shoot left after the first couple of rounds in the clip.

Feel- Like an extension of your hand.....

I've got on also and I really like it, NOTE: I have it with the LazerMax...

It's a great size for carry, I use an Uncle Mikes IWB size 15 or 16 I forget, but it's a good weight and size to conceal easily...

The Recoil is about what you'd expect from a compact pistol, you feel it and notice a difference from a full size, but it's nothing too crazy.

The trigger is LOOOOONG, but once you're used to it, it's not that bad. After you get a good feel for the break point, you become more accurate.

I have larger hands and I like the feel in my hands, I used the pinky extension on the magazine, it's larger then the S&W BG .380 which feels like a mini-squirt gun in my hands.

All around I really like it, ~400rounds and absolutely no problems what so ever, I recommend it to anyone.

The trigger pull bothered me at first too but I quickly learned to compensate for it. I assume the long hard pull is a safety feature. You sure won't pop off a round without expecting it!
Recoil, as someone mentioned, is about what you'd expect but less than you might fear. The designer did a great job with the shape as far as pointability and recoil absorption.

I have been wearing it in a De Santis IWB set up for crossdraw(old and decrepit right shoulder).

One review I read mentioned the grip being like a cheese grater. The author must have had exceptionally sensitive skin or a lousy grip. My tender office worker hands had no problems with the grip surface. I did end up putting a Handall Jr. on it to increase the girth a bit.

For what I want/need, it's great. So what do I want/need? A dependable, small and light, easy to conceal, 9mm for concealed carry. If weight, size, and ease of concealment are irrelevant you would probably be better off with a larger and heaver weapon. If concealment is important to you it's a great choice. Turtle creek makes leather IWB or OWB, tuckable or not, holsters specifically molded for the LCP with or without Lasermax and another laser sight. Same for the LCP.

If you're accustomed to single action autos or double first shot, single action succeeding shots, it will take you some getting used to. Not that that's bad ... just be advised. [The LC9 is double action only and the trigger pull is long. Think of the trigger pull on a double action revolver.]

Feel is an individual thingie. Recoil is more noticeable than the S&W doublestack I have, but not anything even approaching unmanagable. Trigger pull is DAO and as such is long and heavier than single action ... a great safety feature. It's far more accurate than most folks that will be shooting it. FAR more accuate.

I'm no gun expert but I've been shooting for years and years. Suits me just fine.

At about 100 rounds the front sight came loose. Called customer service--had a new slide with pinned sights in about a week. After I shoot about three magazines the web in my hand starts to chafe--put on my driving glove and can shoot without any discomfort. Carried for about two weeks in a IWB DiSantis--just switched to an IWB Crossbreed.
I am used to single action pistols--find my accuracy at 50 ft with to DAO is unimpressive. At 20 ft works fine--can hit apples but not eggs. I got caught up the the bigger caliber craze..my other carry pistol is a SeeCamp .32 in an Uncle Mike pocket holster. Plan to practice a lot more.
LC9--400 rounds no failures.

I agree it's a great conceal weapon. I still don't like the long trigger but I think the other posters are right. It's tough to fire accidentally so it's a nice safety feature. It does what it was designed to do-conceals easily and is reliable.

Once you find the amount of trigger slack you can safely pull through, you can then squeeze off a shot with not that hard of a trigger pull. The long pull is there for a reason. The LC9 is not a target pistol, but for close up work at less than 25 feet it is a solid defensive concealed carry weapon. And you are shooting a 9mm round, not a .380 acp.

My LC9 has worked flawlessly and I bought it for conceal carry. I wear it in my pants pocket with a Desantis pocket holster to keep it from being apparent when in public.
Whatever holster you get make certain you can pull the gun quickly and safely from your pocket or it is all for naught anyway.
Trigger pull is long but I also like the safety factor it provides. I have a Laser Max on it and gun genrally make holes I can cover with my hand at 7 yds.

This shows how Ruger does not have their quality control working. Your first slide was loose and they send you replacement slide which is tighter. Ruger should not have more than .001 or .002 in tolerances variations. I have been on the LC9 trigger pull forum and found lots of owners with big differences in tolerances. Regarding recoil on the LC9, it is fine for a 16 ounce gun. They have the barrel set low in the slide, relative to the hand web between the thumb/finger, which helps to reduce flip. I have fired Corbon +P ammo in my LC9, and I can definitely feel it, but it is controllable. Corbon is the most powerful factory ammo you can buy. My Corbon SD ammo travels at 1350 feet per second with a very high 466 foot pounds of energy.

Regarding the trigger pull, it can be drastically improved with the Galloway Precision Trigger Kit. We could debate long pull for safety all day long, but this gun does have a manual safety. With the Galloway Kit, the trigger pull is still around 6 1/2 pounds, which is not a light (unsafe) pull. Plus the untimate safety is still your trigger finger. Check out this video I posted: Ruger LC9 Trigger Finished - YouTube
