Question on clips for the SR1911

I just got my SR1911 yesterdsay and ran 200 rounds through it as soon as i got it man i love this gun. my question is i had a buddy of mine shooting with me and he has a Kimber Ultra Carry II and he grabbed my mag by mistake and it ran just fine. My question is are all the 1911 full size mags the same? I have seen Colt Government 10rd mags for $21 which is cheaper than the Ruger mags i was just wondering if any of you with the SR1911 have tried different mags and how they worked.

I bought my SR1911 two days ago and have put 100 through it , for now It's my favorite gun. When I bought I was told pretty much all 1911 parts were interchangeable. At the range my friends colt 7 round mags worked in my gun and my ruger 7 and 8 round mags worked in his.

I too have been wondering about this. Haven't taken mine to the range yet, but I want a high cap mag but as OP mentioned the price is what makes the diff. I might pick up a Ruger, but if I can get more cheaper, I'll go with that. Bookmarking this. THanks

In theory any brand magazine will work in any M1911 made from original specs. Just remember the cliche that 'you get what you pay for'. Also you may find that some magazine/gun combinations will work well with one type of ammunition but not another type. Generally this is the shape of the bullet that makes the difference, such as round nose, wad cutter, or hollow point and style of follower in the magazine. Of course you need to keep them clean, free of dents and have good springs.
I have 4 or 5 different brands of magazines, they all work equally well in my M1911 with FMJ ammo.

Any 1911 mag should fit, but they are all not the same quality. I use Wilson 47's.

+1. I have one Wilson 47D and like it far better than the Ruger supplied, but they aren't cheap. About $32 is the ballpark for most places. I'll be buying more of these when funds allow.

I agree with others that the beauty of the 1911 is interchangeability, as long as the parts are to spec.

Check out a critique by Iowegan, it covers interchangeability and magazines. Good read.

I use an assortment of different makes of mags on the range and they all feed fine. Some of them are a little stiff going in, or hang up coming out of, the mag well. When the SR is my EDC, I use KimPro Tac-Mags and I love em. No insertion issues and they fall out under their own weight when I hit the mag release.

I was told that Chip McCormick makes the MagPros but I do not know that for a fact.

The best And consistent advice from most 1911 hand gunners is to buy good quality magazines rather than waisting money on junk. You will save money and frustration in the long run.

+1. I really like the McCormick magazines myself. The Wilsons are also excellent.

Agreed, at the end of the day, you only get what you pay for.
