Ther ewas one on Gunbroker but it ended and I can't figure out how to see it now. I think gunbroker changed so you can't see stuff that is over anymore?

If I am just missing this feature someone correct me.

I like bright polished stainless as it looks like nickel finish but without the environmental headaches of nickel. Many companies no longer offer nickel plating due to the environmental headaches some jurisdictions levle on nickel plating facilities.

Polishing SR1911

Hi,

I picked up a Ruger SR1911 a few months ago, and I've just decided to go ahead and polish it out. I can't find any photos online of one that's been done, and the link to the ad doesn't work. I'll let you know how I make out.

A polished out SR1911 might actually be easier to maintain than the bead blasted finish as I could easily buff out scratches and dings on the wheel.
I use an 8" x1.5" felt buffing wheel and polish rogues on many items including gun parts and done correctly you can make almost any metal mirror smooth.

I have begun polishing out the SR1911. I have most of the small parts about 70-80% done. I realized it was going to take a long time and a lot of work to do the slide and frame, so I've enlisted the help of a gunsmith friend, who has the proper equipment (and who knows Terry Tussey) to do the frame and slide for me. I am shooting for a full polish similar to my Colt Custom .38 Super in Bright Stainless. In the following pics, you can see how far I got on the slide, most noticeable at the lower muzzle end of the slide. I expect to have the frame and slide back in about 2 weeks. The beavertail safety is not finished yet, just fyi. Sorry the pics aren't that great. I will use my high end camera for the final pics.

Pics of my SR1911 in original condition for comparison

I'm posting these pics now so you will be able to compare the before and after differences once the gun is finished.

I'd be interested to see what it looks like when finished.
Me, I'm keeping mine stock standard.
