My first was a Beretta 84F purchased in 1991. All of my Beretta's and FN's work this way. I have never given the function a second thought since they all have redundant safety systems to prevent discharge.

I have three P's and the GF has one, from now on I will only buy DC's. After having a DC and then getting a manual safety, I prefer the DC 100% Now my GF may disagree as she likes the security of a MS. Never had a failure with either system and we always play it safe with the muzzle end.

The firing pin is connected to the lever, so when you actuate it the pin is then retracted inside the frame of the slide where the hammer can no longer reach it. That combined with the firing pin block that requires the trigger be pulled all the way back, makes it extremely safe to use the decocker on these pistols.

Now the P85 had an issue where if the firing pin broke, this sort of thing could happen. They remedied that issue with the P85 MK II and the changes carried over to all the other P series pistols.

Now revolvers, on the other hand....
Lotsa folks use an old bucket filled with sand or cat litter. Point your gun into it and you have no worries.

My P95 DC never failed me. The noise used to get to me at first. I always, always keep it pointed it in a safe direction when I decock it. You just have to get used to it.

I like several others have never had a decocker on a p90 or p95, but always hold them in a safe direction.

I will try to be more active on here. Thinking about adding a sr40c and did pick up a nice model 77 with scope.
Yes the first time you use it it will scare you with the noise on force you feel while the hammer falls. Its very safe but it can startle you.
