Ruger DAO pistols.

Somewhat new to Ruger pistols( only have SR 1911) and have a question concerning the various P models that are modified( I guess) to DAO. Specifically, I found a Stainless P94 in 40 S&W that feels triggerwise very much like my Kahr (very good) The trigger is much better that the DA/SA first DA pull. Wondering what "snakes" lie in the path of ownership. I understand that these were produced until 2004 and were specified to be DAO by various PDs. Any first hand knowledge or second hand insight would be appreciated.

Charlie

A few years back I had a P93DAO (think all metal P95DAO) 9mm. Once I got used to it, I shot it as well as the P95DC 9mm that I had at the same time.

Plus factors:
1. Every trigger pull is exactly the same every time.
2. Once the trigger has been pulled and released, the pistol is exactly in the same state that it was before the trigger was pulled. There no need to operated a decocker/safety or other hardware.
3. Simpler design than decocker/safety models--fewer parts and modes of operation.

Negative factor:
No fully cocked single action trigger pull.

Summary: Absolutely the best self defense trigger mechanism for a semi-auto pistol.

I sold all of my 9mm when I decided to move to revolvers for "smaller than 40" calibers and to .45 for semi-autos. Since then I have purchased two SR9c pistols--which are sort of a DAO design.

I agree with OldNavy regarding the benefits of DAO pistols. I own two (Ruger LC9 and a S&W 3953) and both are great self defense pistols.

If you are considering a DAO pistol, I would suggest checking out a Sig Sauer P250. They come in three sizes and four calibers (.9mm, 40 S&W. .45 ACP and .357 Sig). I own one in compact .45

Thanks for the reference to the Sig 250. While excellent pistols, the ones I've looked at didn't have the trigger smoothness and finish of the equivalent Kahrs. My inquiry into the DAO Ruger P94 is because a LGS has a like-new one for around $300. It seemed a good value, but I wasn't familiar with the gun.

Thanks

Charlie

I have a P94DAO in 9mm, and I love it. I am a big fan of DAO auto pistols, and this one is my favorite. Prior to it I had an S&W 5946 and a 4046, both DAO, but the Ruger has the better trigger, and is much easier to shoot accurately for me.
