Is there a special tool for removing the grips on this? I don't want to start wrenching on this and strip them out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately I have yet to actually be able to see an SR1911 in person, so congratulations! I was beginning to think they were just a clever hoax, like the moon landing.
However the photo's on the website show a hex head screw on the SR1911 grips. A set of Allen wrenches should have a wrench that will fit them.
None of mine are marked, but if I'm not mistaken they are 3/32".

Thank you. My allen wrenches aren't marked either but I found the right one. I put on some Pearce Wrap around grips underneath. Looks and feels sweet. Thanks again.
You should get grips for a standard size goverment 1911. Ruger uses the same grip size as most other brands of 1911's such as Colt, Kimber, Springfield or S&W.
I was lucky enough to get one right away. The gun is very tight, very accurate and very well made as you would expect a Ruger to be. I have had no issues with failures to feed or eject. I am firing 230 gr RN-FMJ, 230 gr Berry RN and 200 gr RN-L Oregon Trail bullets through it, al loaded to for low or mid-power. I put 100 Magtech 230 gr hard ball rounds through it to start. The total is about 2000 rounds altogether to date. It was worth the $799 I paid for it. I am sure the price will come down in a while, just like other Rugers have. Although Ruger says in the manual to use their magazines (which are very high quality), I have had no issues with my various Chip McCormick mags in it. I used to want a Kimber, but not anymore. I am very happy with this pistol.
As I recall, I just used a standard allen wrench. I replaced my stock grips with a set of black "Alumagrips" (standard thickness) and they feel great!
