| LC9 Problems
I recently purchased an LC9 for my Mom as a ccw. First 200 rounds or so were flawless, and we were very happy with the pistols performance, even with the long trigger. Unfortunately, after the last range session the pistol has become very unreliable. Almost every time you try to chamber a round it nose dives into the feed ramp. The problem occurs with both HP and ball ammo. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas as to what might be causing it?

Have you cleaned it? Sometime the muzzle ramp can get pretty gummed up with burnt powder. Do you have a spare magazine? If so do you experience the same thing with both mags? Last resort: Call Ruger - They're great to deal with.

Thanks for covering the basics, I knew I was forgetting to list all the pertinent info, I just couldn't think of what all to include in the original post. The pistol has been cleaned and test fired a few times since the problem started, but it still persists. We do have 2 magazines for it as well and it does the same thing with both of them. I was hoping there would be someone here that had experienced the same thing and had a "magic" fix lol.

With an LC9 on the to my LGS I am interested in your post, and by the way welcome to the forum. The suggestion to call Ruger is a good one. They may know right away what the problem is and can determine if you need to send it to them for repair.

I have a friend who had the same problem. That is why I went with the kel tec pf 9. But he did have some luck with the hornady 115gr FTX rounds. They seem to fire fine and they are a great self defense round.

| Do you know any more about his problem? Did he ever send it to Ruger for service? Mom's faith in the little Ruger is already damaged, and I dont want to convincer her to keep a pistol that she is likely to have problems with in the future, so I'm interested in hearing if your friend was able to get the gun running reliably.
Whats really unusual is that the first 250 or so rounds went through without a single problem. I just cant understand what would cause it to behave like this without some obvious defect when it was working so well to begin with.

You're not riding the slide forward are you? That could cause the rounds to take a nose dive. Just a thought.

Did you by chance take the magazines apart?
Berettas will do that if the mag spring is inverted. There's definately an up and a down side to those springs. Not sure about yours.

I notice that the magazines are made in Italy, so inverting the spring might be the cause of your sudden difficulties. Got my used LC9 and so far working fine with both magazines.

Thanks for the replies. Never could figure it out, definitely not easing the slide forward, and the magazines have never been taken apart. Contacted Ruger, and they were easy to deal with (as expected). They emailed a shipping label and the gun has been with them for a few days now. After I get it back and take it to the range I'll let you guys know the results. I'm guessing Ruger will ship an invoice with it that shows what was done, but if not I'll call to see if I can find out what was done.

It never does this if I pull the slide all the way back and release it sharply. Could this be your problem?

Got a LC9 that blew off the rear sight and dropped the keeper pin underneath. Sent it back to Ruger and they fixed and returned it w/o a hitch. Also, had the same issue with a friend's LC9 so I think there's a defect. We both had only fired a couple of hundred rounds through the gun. I do understanf that these are pure carry pieces and not designed for range shooting, but they should allow you to fire enough rounds to get comfortable with the piece.
Got a LCR too which is a great ittle pieces but hard to handle at times w/ +Ps.
