I bought a Wilson Combat mag. it worked as well as the Rugers. It was an 8 rd clip and it was also easier to load (spring not as strong). We will see how long they all last.

I've used several mags in my SR1911, all with no problems:
7 and 8 rnd that came with it from Ruger
two 8 rnd Kimber from Sportsman for $17.99 - a great deal for their quality
a cheapo Chip McCormick from Midway for sale price $14.99 - just thought I'd try it while ordering/shipping other stuff link
even an old mag that came in my first box of used RCBS gear that I got from a Craigslist posting several years ago - cleaned off the rust, removed the follower and spring to clean inside - works fine. Has lots of character/history marks. One of the older guys at matches who is a vet thinks this mag may be WWII vintage, so he pleaded with me to only use it as my Barney mag or backup for matches - so that's what I've been doing.
so I have concluded that my SR1911 is fairly mag tolerant

I have just one 1911, a fine old heirloom Colt that I do not shoot becaise it was made in 1914. I like all kinds of firearms and have a few Rugers that I am fond of. The new SR1911 does look nice, it has most of the features I would like and is priced fairly. It should be a success.

I don't think the gun can be beat considering the quality and features at the price it goes for. I've been very pleased with mine. My only complaint is they don't furnish a hex wrench for the grip screws....a problem easily remedied. I've read some complaints about the cardboard box the gun is shipped in. Who cares.....they give you a nice pistol pouch with the gun. You just can't please everyone. |

I bought this weapon after my last deployment. 600 rounds of JHP and FMJ from 8 different makers and ZERO problems. My first 1911 and I love it. I carry Federal HST and It spits fire down range EXACTLY where I point. The 7 round mag is hard to seat at times because it has no bumper pad, but, that's on me. Beauty of a gun, well made, weighted like a prom queen and certain trouble for the bad guy who may have the misfortune of being on the wrong side of it's anger.
I love it, the wife loves it, the father-in-law loves it and ammo loves it!

I can't say good or bad on the SR1911 as a pistol, but I think Ruger dropped the ball on production & availability. It's been 9 months since release & I haven't even found a shop that can get one. I've had several priced, but when they checked on availability, it was a no go. I gave up and bought two Berettas, a SIG, and an H&K while looking for a SR1911.

My SR1911 is my first 1911 so I can't compare it to other 1911's. It shoots great and is 100% made in America.

I talked with a guy who has one, he also has a couple 2000.00 colts in 1911.
He told me the Ruger definitely can keep up with his colts.
