This is a discussion on The New SR1911 is no good.... within the Ruger Pistols forums, part of the Pistol & Revolver Forum category; To me half the value of the SR1911 is that it is made by, and thus supported by, Ruger. Best customer service in the industry.

If I can't get my hands on one (I live in California) I probably will go with the S&W 1911. S&W is the one company whose support is perhaps about as good as Ruger, according to several people at LGSs I have talked to. Plus the S&W is also one nice piece, albeit about $920 here in the People's Republic.
it just came out , give it a few years till they perfect the design. i will wait a little while to see how the SR1911 performs before i fork over 800 bucks! every design has its flaws when they first come out then correct them over the years , from customer feedback.
The "design" has been around for 100 years. How long you planning on waiting?
+1 .... the design has been around for quite some time . and it shouldn't be $800 bucks... More like $600 or so. I would like to pick one up this year too. We'll see.

I might recommend the Taurus first myself, but it's as much a personal preference as anything else.
Yep. My son got one last year. Functions flawlessly and I was able to get good groups with it when I shot it (and I am a Single Action shooter... not a Semi-auto shooter). He was happy with it. He can't wait to get back from Iraq and continue to shoot it!

800 is MSRP, that is not what they are going for, they are going for 600 or so. I paid 650 but I did not want to wait longer than 3 May, 2 days after release. At that price it compares to most of the off shore stuff, most of which do not have match grade barrel, beveled mag well, Novak sights. Pretty good price IMHO for 100% USA, but I have developed a severe bias in 3 weeks.
I bought one at a local dealer for 600 bucks two weeks ago. I hope to finally take it out for a test run in in the morning. The SR1911 appears to be well built and is a piece of cake to field strip and reassemble. If it shoots as good as my Rem R1 I'll be happy because the Remington is one accurate handgun. I suspect my new Ruger will be up to the task.
Well I can't wait for them to be more available here I will be getting one and I find it fitting that Ruger just happened to make a 1911 on the anniversary. The local gun shop will be selling them for $599.
I beg to differ about Ruger CS. I had issues with them last year when a brand new SP-101 DAO out of the box had difficulty extracting shells. I was told on the phone to send it back on my nickle. I ended up taking to my local gunsmith.
