| Windage Adjustment
I'm having trouble adjusting the rear sight on my SR40. How far do you loosen the windage screw before the sight can be moved? At first I slightly loosened the screw but the sight would not move. I then loosened the screw further but the screw started to break through the top of the sight pulling up the plastic around the screw hole. Any one run into the same issue and have a suggestion?

Color me crazy but the windage adjustment is not as easy as turning a screw. If I am correct, you do need to loosen the screw, but ultimately you will need a punch and hammer or a sight tool to adjust windage. Elevation is adjusted with a screw and the windage is just "drift adjustable".

I know it needs to be tapped and I did that but it didn't move. I'm thinking either the screw was not loose enough to let the sight move or I'm doing something else wrong. I'd rather not tear the sight up after only 2 days...

You are not hitting it hard enough. That's all there is to it.
Use something soft as a punch like a wooden dowel or something.

GMinor, I think you're right. I'll give it a try, thanks.

I figure this is gonna be my carry weapon and if ever needed in the real world situation, Im not gonna have time to take careful aim, more likely point and shoot (which is what I practice mostly doing). I have now gotten my groups inside of 6.5" at 5 yards and will keep practicing.
But if adjusting the site is easy enough, I will do it for the times on the range when I am going for the distant bullseye |

@ Lazydog, I'll let you know. I'm going to take the gun to the dealer soon and ask them what they would charge to do it or maybe just to get a tip on doing it myself. The gun is too pretty to just go bangin away on the rear sight without knowing what I'm doing.

A lot of dealers have their own sight pushers for swapping out sights for customers. Maybe they can bore sight it and see if it points left or right and adjust to compensate. If you're shooting technique is solid, a quick sight adjustment will have you shootings X's all day.

Besides having problems with it double firing like a machine gun, I tried to adjust the sight to the right and pulled the screw up through the plastic. I still could not budge the sight. You actually have to hit it with a mallet of push really had to adjust--that sucks! So much for adjusting in the field for minor changes in windage. Anyway, I sent my SR9c to ruger for repair for the major problem and mentioned this as well. We will see what happens when it returns. Though I did buy a Laserlyte rearsight for it and so will likely remove the rear sight (old or new) shortly after getting it back.

The gun smith suggested getting more finger on the trigger and try shooting again before adjusting. He says lots of people complain about shooting low and left because if your finger isn't fully on the trigger you will push the gun to the left. I'm not sure about that. I'm no expert but I feel like I have a decent trigger pull. I'll try it this weekend and see what happens.

| sr9c accuracy
I went right to the range after I bought it and I couldn't believe how great this gun was. At 50 ft right out of the box nice tight centered groups. On my newxt trip to the range I had several ejection failures. Snet the gun to Ruger and they replaced the ejector, but then the gun was shooting low and to the left. Iwas happy with the group but not it's location. Any ideas why this accuracy issue might happen and the fix? Thanks

I had to adjust the windage on my SR9c, it's VERY tight. You just loosen the screw, when you notice the screw start to stiffen up, it's loose enough, otherwise you will break threw the plastic in which you stuck your allan wrench.

I had same issues on my sr9c. I wanted to pull set screw all the way out so that after i drifted the sight, I could apply loctite to the set screw. Taking set screw all the way out pulled plastic out of the set screw hole. Seems to me that set screw was not designed to be fully taken out and nowhere in the manual does it say not to. I have a feeling they installed set screw from underneath the sight and not from top when installed. Quote:
