SR9C Takedown Issue

OK, so I went to the range and put 100 rounds without incident (750 total thru gun), but when I went to strip the gun for cleaning the slide went forward about 1 inch and jammed (forward from normal position so I could see 1 inch of recoil spring). Wouldn't move backward or forward. Called Ruger and they told me the recoil assembly probably slipped and to put a screwdriver under the frame and push recoil assembly upwards to allow it to slide off frame. I have cleaned this 5 or 6 tomes before and never had an issue. But if anyone runs into this don't panic (like I did!), it is faily easy to fix, although I haven't shot since then to see if it may be a recurring problem, but hopefully I can go today. Thankfully Ruger support is right there and wil talk you through any issues.

I had the same issue once. I've stripped and cleaned the pistol so many time that I chalked it up to 'over familiarity' in that I'd reassembled it too quickly without paying enough close attention to spring and rod placement.

I've occasionally had the same sort of thing crop up when I've worked on my vehicles - I've worked on them so often over the years that, sometimes, I don't think about what it is that I'm doing. It's the same thing that would caused my dad to cuff me in the back of my head while telling me to "Pay attention!"

Problem is, he's no longer around to cuff me in the head!

Had same problem the second and third time that I disassembled my SR9c. Fortunately, I could pull the slide back a little way and re-seat the spring in the barrel again - then could take slide off. No problem since and I've done it many times now.

I always ensure the striker is in half cock position before disassembling. The slide comes off easier because the firing pin block lifter on the trigger bar sits lower and doesn't contact any part of the slide on the way off. Also, when pulling back on the slide to release it for removal from the frame, do it gently. I think a rough pull back caused my initial problems with the recoil spring becoming unseated from the barrel.
