| Lube and polymer frames?
As some of you know, I recently purchased a like new P95. This is my first Polymer framed gun. That being said, what lube is safe to use on polymer framed guns? What should be avoided at all costs?
All the Best,

I've used a dab of wheel bearing grease in the slide channel on each side as suggested by others on line. A little on the outside of the barrel as well.

i used whatever i had lying around... i put 5000+ rounds, over 12 years, through a first gen P95 and there was basically no wear at all on the frame, let alone excessive wear. pretty much the only wear at all was on the forward part of barrel hood, and that fell easily into what i would call "normal".
+1 for putting a little on the barrel.
i would watch what you clean it with, especially if you use an aerosol spray cleaner... but i have never heard of a lube that "should be avoided"
oh, and even though it is you first polymer gun... it is unique even to those who do have polymer guns. the P95 (96, 97) is the only polymer gu n that i know of that does NOT use metal rail inserts. the slide rides right on the polymer frame. supposedly this makes it somewhat self lubricating.

I use tetra gun grease on my p95 slide, just enough that it looks "wet". Everything else gets either break-free or Corrision X. |

There is a gunsmith named Cunningham who is a Colt revolver specialist. His website has some good info articles, like this one on lube: GrantCunningham.com - Library
I have followed his recommendation to use Dexron ATF mixed with STP Engine Treatment for a long time and have been very happy with the results. I vary the ratio for different applications; mixed 1:1 it makes a fantastic chainsaw bar oil!

i don't know. i never had any issues, but others here on this site have used stuff that discolors the frame. i think it's mainly stuff that is in aerosol cans.
someone will chime in.

I use Hoppes # 9 and aerosol Breakfree on metal parts of my SR9 but I've read that it can discolor the frame so I use Birchwood Cassey Synthetic Gun Cleaner to spray out the internals of the frame and have had no problems. Shooter Choice grease on the slide rails.

Don't have many polymer guns.. but BreakFree CLP works well and at least claims to be safe for all materials.
