RAP, Compact, Holster, Laser, oh my.

As most of RAP owners already know, there are not a lot of accessories available for our gun and even less for the Compact. I did find a Compact Holster from Alien Gear, so I bought one.

They are pretty neat as to swap out kydex shells if you change guns at no charge (photo 1).

Down the road I added a Crimson Trace Rail Master red laser (photo 2). Of course the laser was not going to fit the holster as the flat spot (photo 1) would prevent that. These holsters are adjustable to some degree so you can determine how much pull you want to generate to draw the pistol out. The side against your body is not a kydex matching piece. Instead it is some sort of rubber membrane designed to flex and hold your pistol in.

To make it fit, I used a heat gun and a digital temperature gun which can be bought at any home improvement store or tool store.

I heated the flat area, the lower rail area, and the trigger area (photo 3) on the kydex. It took some trial and error, but after each heating session, I would push my gun in to bend back the kydex into place.

I used gloves as I was heating things up to 250 degrees. My initial problem, after letting it cool down, was that the laser would come on when I inserted the gun into the holster. I ended up taping a small washer over the laser switch and heating the kydex again and forming it over that area only. That solved that problem.

Now the laser comes on when pulling the gun out of the holster. I think I'll leave it like that.

Nice. I be er thought about heating a kydex holster to reshape it. I guess it makes perfect sense, though.

On the other hand you could have just bought one from onyoursixdesigns.com, they made one of me. At the time they had no rail laser models, so I sent my laser ahead. They custom made mine (I am left handed) , and sent the laser and the holster in a very reasonable amount of time. It was very fairly priced, it quite high in quality. Retains my RAP well. it fits the pistol and me fine and has not put a mark on it in 3 months of use. I highly recommend them.

I like my Alien Gear holster's, can carry iwb a taurus pt-111 in one(also can be used for my bersa/sr-22 and the larger one for my 9E and with a little tinkering my old HI Point c9. My new SR-45 can also fit. Great product. Bought mine with a two holster deal. Never regretted. Nice job.
