Angry Ruger american front sight removal

How do I remove the front sight on my pistol? I have tried a punch and hammer with no luck.: mad: I am replacing the sights with something I can see better. I have trouble seeing the standard three dot sights and am going to the ATPS sights. Any help would be appreciated. I do not have a sight pusher.

Take it to a gunsmith. The $50 will save you a lot of stress and slide costs.

The white dots didn't cut it for me either. I just had TFX pro's put on.

What Lou said Especially if you don't have a pusher.

Assuming you have firearms friends maybe one has a pusher you might borrow??? if not my top tip is find a gunsmith or store who will mount it for free or low cost if you buy it there.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting a sight pusher but can not afford one right now. I called Ruger and if I ship it to them they will do it at no cost. I just haven't had a chance to do it yet or bring it to a gunsmith. The sights I am putting on are the Advantage Tactical Pyramid sights.

DPris will become famous soon enough
I wanted Hi-Viz sights put on the one here, but my gunsmith tried & said his universal pusher would not fit.
Ruger apparently uses a too-wide slide.
He would have done it with sledge & cutting torch, but said he'd have to fabricate a support fixture first & I gave up on the idea.
Wasn't worth the money on a gun I'm not keeping.

And I was not going to take a hammer to it myself.

Would have "pushed" for no charge, would have billed me for a half-hour of shop time the other way.

I have a sight pusher and changed both front and rear sights on my SR9c. Pain in the butt.
Give it to a pro, you won't regret it

Agreed. If you don't own a pusher, the small fee charged by a pro is well worth it.

I got the Truglo Tritium (not much choice from anybody) for my RAP Compact. I then bought the cheap site tool from Ebay. It took quite considerable effort to remove the rear sight. It could not remove the front sight. The tool torqued and the velcro sheared off the holding blocks. I then hammered with an 8lb mini-sledge hammer and it did not move.

I happened to have the gun with me when I was checking out a gun range on an out of town trip. I inquired as to much and they said they could do it on the spot. 50 minutes later the old one was off and the new one installed.

It did make a big difference. I'm knocking on 60 years of age and I need a lot of light to see restaurant menus at night. Shooting it I an dead on like never before.

One last note, both sights were off coming out of the box.
