Did Ruger change the SR9 extractor?

I bought a brand-new SR9 (stainless, full-size) yesterday. As I was finalizing the paperwork at my LGS, I noticed that the extractor was black, even though the rest of the slide was stainless. As I thought about it, I realized that I did not remember any of the other SR series guns I looked at in other stores having a black extractor. A quick Google search shows LOTS of SR pistols with a stainless (or stainless-looking) extractor, and VERY FEW like mine.

Does anyone know when this change was made? Was this a functional change made to address some concern with the previous extractor? Perhaps Ruger decided to save a few bucks by only using one part number of extractor for both the black and stainless models? (Sort of like they did when they stopped shipping SR pistols in the nice, hard plastic case!)

Any info about this is greatly appreciated.

If no answers, what does yours look like?

Since there does not seem to be a lot of answers about this, I was wondering if we could find the answer together...

If you have a stainless slide SR9, does it have a black or silver extractor? If so, how old is it? I know it does not REALLY matter, but I am very curious.

Thanks in advance.

My 9E has a black extractor. Mr SR9c has a SS extractor.

I remember reading about the change in extractors either on this forum or the rugerforum.com

I would bet that it is a way for them to use up extra parts or possibly they are getting ready to discontinue all the SR series or possibly just keep the 9E which has a black/blued extractor.

I have a stainless slide on the SR9. The extractor is black. Bought it brand new a month and a half ago. I hope they dont discontinue the SR series. I dont want to have issues getting things fixed years down the line. I have a P95 Ruger is currently servicing and from what Ive read, replacement parts are hard to come by for the P95's.

Thanks, Johnwes. Like yours, mine is also brand new. I bought it last month, but according to the LGS, it was shipped from Ruger in January, 2017. Maybe someone else will chime in and help me narrow down when this change took place.
