New LCPII, quality issues out of the box

Hello all, got a LCPII on saturday (what a mistake, took hours for the ATF to do their job) and out of the box it was quite dirty, and has some not so nice things on it. Ill include some pics. Im sure when i send it in itll al be fixed and i know it happens, and its also a $300 gun.

First ruger and im just suprised this got through assembly. Maybe it was from test firing. Barrel was dirty inside as was the rest of the gun, but i dont know how much its fired before sending out.

Anyway, i like it a lot so far and cannot wait to shoot it. Any opnions on if i should send it back first before firing?

That gun looks used. Where did you buy it from?

Agree, I would check out what the dealer did to that gun first. A lot can happen once a gun leaves the factory. Was it sold as NEW?

Got it from a large dealer in the NE. Its a legit place that many people buy from.

Another thing i took a pic of but cant find is where the serial number is the poly frame is bent out. I assume its just some kind of burr on the poly frame , as i moved it a bit and the bulge got smaller.

Yes sir. Bnib. I took the tag off the trigger guard and everything. Immedeately cleaned it out and noticed these markings and such. I need to double check some nunbers when i get home as well.heres a pic of the frame bulge. And the mess i cleaned out.

Looks like a range gun someone tested out then boxed it back up. If it came from ruger like that then someone dropped all the parts before it was all put together Why not just box it up and take it back the way you got it? I would ask for another. Don't be fooled by the trick after you fill out the paperwork its non returnable crap cause it's a Firearm. I have taken back New bad guns before. If it's a large dealer as you say and a good reliable dealer they can swap it out for another new one.

I've purchased a lot of Ruger rifles, handguns, and a shotgun, all new and the worst condition on any of them was a little test fire residue. They were essentially pristine beyond that. Your pistol did not come from Ruger in that condition.

If some gun shop sold that to me as"New In Box" I would have no trouble taking it back to them for a refund. To hell with that "can't return firearms." If they can call used "New" then you can call "Junk" returnable.

Good Luck.

Thanks for all the input guys. Ill bring it back and worst they do is ship it out to ruger. But looked at it before i purchased it and do not recall seeing the marks. Then again it may have been to dirty to see. Ill keep everyone updated, hopefully the dealer plays nice and takes care of me. If not ill return it and go elsewhere.

Always, always, always, look your new firearm over well before plopping down your money. Never buy a pig in a poke. After you handle the display firearm and they pull out a box from inventory, have them open the box and give it a good look-over. If the LGS won't let you do that, walk out the door. My LCP II with over 300 rounds thru it looks better than that.

I looked over it pretty well aside from a full break down. When the barrel is in the gun you cannot see the lockface area, and as i stated it was pretty dirty so thats possibly why i didnt notice and little shine on the top of the lockface.

For future refrence im going to field strip and gun im going to buy. The box it came in had a slightly bent corner, and i said to myself i should ask for another one. Too bad i didnt listen to my gut. Im going back to dealer today too see what they have to say

So went in, didnt seem like the manager wanted to give me the time of day. I expressed my concerns and he seemed to think it was all normal and stated they put a mag or two through it factory. I guess they dont clean them afterwards.

I asked for the display piece and it looked the same. Dirty and worn (looking). Honestly after seeing another one exibiting the same attributes, i chalk it up to it being dirt cheap. I dont know what coating is used but its not very resistant. No burrs or anything, just worn. Slide face (where the firing pin is) as well on both have brass residue.

So im going to shoot mine and if all is well, no biggie. If its that bad ill get it coated. I just was concerned about rusting.

I just pray it operates well. Its been a bad experience so far, and im hoping firing it will make up for it.

Lessons learned.

UPDATE :

Put 100 steel case, 100 brass case and 20 HST rounds through her. 0 malfunctions. And I shot her till she was very hot. So thats good to know and was expected. Barrel bluing came off more, but after a few more hindred rounds ill either duracote or cerakote it. And ill do the slide as it has some burrs inside i can feel so i gotta file.

I have more pics and ill chronicle this so others can find it useful.
