SR9c issue?

Hello new member here first post..

Last year I bought a new Ruger SR9c and due to health issues I could not use it until the other day and I noticed something that may or may not be a problem? When I insert a mag it will not just click in I have to give it a slap or solid tap with my palm for it to lock in is this normal? Also the mags do not drop free they come out just a little then I have to pull them out is that normal? The pistol seems to work fine just a bit different in this area then other pistols I have owned. Thanks!

I've had the SR9c for a few years now & mine needs a solid tap to properly seat the mag in the well. I just assume this is normal as this is my first semi auto pistol. As far as the mags not dropping free, I've never had this issue. Mine fall free & have from the day I bought it. Perhaps yours will get better over time but not something I would personally worry about. Certainly in a tactical situation it may not be ideal that they stick so maybe a gunsmith could take a look at it. It's a great pistol though, I hope you like it as much as I like mine

As you are from MA can we assume this happens with 10 round magazines? The magazines should drop freely assuming there is no interference from 'plus size palms' or gloves. FWIW, I always give a magazine a little slap to guarantee engagement.

Always need to give my SR9c a pretty good tap to fully seat the mags. The mags not freely falling is not normal but just may need to get broken in. I wouldn't worry about it until after about 300 rounds and if the mags still don't fall freely, you should dig a little deeper.

You should be using your palm. I used to shoot IPSC (sometimes referred as action pistol) back in the '80's. Here's a very good video on ejecting/replacing a magazine. While I didn't use Doug Koenig's method of shifting the pistol in his shooting hand everything else was the same. You "point" the magazine into the mag well with your index finger. Once the contact is made you lift up your index finger and your palm is in perfect position to ram the magazine home.

As far as the magazine not releasing I agree that it will with time.

I have the SR 9 and the magazines did not drop as they should. I sent it back and they fixed the problem. Great customer service.

I have a new SR9 and have been wondering the sane thing. Realized I need to give it a good pop to get the mags in. I took my gun out of my IWB and the mag just dropped. First trip to the range the pistol did not fire, akso due to the mag not being fully inserted. Now Im just firm with it and no problems.

pop it

I have an SR9C and the mags do like a good pop to seat them in the pistol but they fall free when released.

I just got a 9C, and the 10 round mag with pinky extension needs a good rap to seat. Turns out the top of the extension wasn't allowing the mag to be pushed into the mag-well enough to seat easily. Remove the extension and push the mag in and you will see what I mean.
I solved this by looking where the extension was contacting the bottom of the well, and filed off a slight amount off the ridge going around the front of the extension. See pic.
Now it seats easily.

I had that problem at first. It just takes a little getting used to. Congrats, it's one fine gun.

I see exactly what you are talking about. I will file some off that area of the mag and give it a shot I figure it can't hurt any. Thanks!

I just checked my SR9C. I have no difficulty inserting the magazine and it falls free when ejected.

I think I am going to put a few hundred more rounds down the pipe to see if there is any other issues before calling Ruger. At that point I will see how much the mag issue bothers me and call Ruger if necessary.

I would also like to comment that the SR9c is one of the finest pistols I have ever shot! It is really a well thought out pistol and just what I was looking for for carry. The 9c has great balance in the hand, shoots great, and just feels right! I feel it would be a big mistake for Ruger to discontinue this model. I am thinking about adding a 40c I like the 9c so much.
