First Ruger handgun American 9mm

IMG_0045.JPGI really wanted an American 9mm Compact. I got one from my wife for Christmas. It fell apart on the 150th round. Guide rod came apart, slide skewed on frame and take down lever knocked out 1/8th inch. Sent back to factory for repair. It was returned 'repaired'. Very finicky with ammunition and slide does not lock to rear on empty magazine. Less than 500 rounds through the gun. Really disappointed. I live 40 miles from Mayodan, NC where Ruger has a manufacturing site. I am really discouraged by this. I have two Ruger rifles that are great.
I own numerous other handguns from other manufacturers and did not expect this from a top tier gun maker.IMG_0043.JPG

Welcome to the forum!

Lemons happen. Keep contacting Ruger until it works right. Ruger generally makes solid working firearms.

Welcome to the forum, this is a nice place with good folks and plenty of info. I thought the same thing 3 years ago , I got a glock g42 and it had numerous problems. Glock took good care of me and the pistol now has over 3000 rounds through it. Reason I am telling you this is that I have a RAP with 1000 rounds through it with zero issues, I have other rugers (several rifles and a 22/45 pistol) recently the 22/45 (with many rounds through it ) had an issue and Ruger customer care was perfect. Give them a chance to make it right and you will both love their service and the firearm when they are finished with it.

Welcome from Kansas City, MO! Yeah, definitely call Ruger. They went above and beyond for me with issues I had with my LCRX .38. Some of the best customer service dealings I've ever had.

First Ruger handgun American 9mm

I was in the market for a duty sized 9mm. What do you think of the Ruger American? I wanted something with a 4.5" barrel, de-cocker instead of a safety, and hammer fired-D/A S/A And NO MAGAZINE DISCONNECT SAFETY. I hate those.

Really wish Ruger would modernize and reintroduce their P series.

As such I went with a CZ P-09. Hit all the check marks, and had no trade offs.

Ruger could do it if they wanted to.

Hammer fired semi autos got soul!

That's matches what the owners of buggy whips used to say.
