New American compact 45

Finally got out to the range with my new American compact 45....LOVE IT!

1st 100 rounds down range without a hicup. Combination WWB and Remington 230 gr round nose.

I do have one issue...the captured spring on the guide rod. Before firing I stripped the gun to clean it and as soon as I pulled the guide rod the front end of the spring came off the rod. Called Tiger and they sent another...with the same result.

Has anyone else had this issue? It looks like the diameter of the spring is slightly too large for the plate to hold it.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

For those interested (or who are having the same issue), I just got off the phone with Ruger. They are well aware of the issue with the guide rod spring, but have no idea when/if they will get to a fix for the issue.

The suggestion then have is as follows:
1. Send the firearm in, they will see if they can "tweak it" or not, test fire it and send it back.
2. You can continue to push the spring back on after cleaning...

So I guess I will continue to call every couple of weeks until they can come up with a fix, which IMHO is a rather easy one...reduce the OD of the spring at the end so it will stay captured. Guess I will try to do that myself.

I called customer service about this last month and they said that it is normal. It just takes a little extra effort to get it back together.

Not a good answer to a "captured spring" guide rod

I have the same problem, called and they gave me a prepaid shipping so they can fix it.

The person that I spoke with stated they would send me the prepaid but could not guarantee that they could "fix" it...just look at it and see if they could.

Gusti6 did you get it back yet? Wondering if they were able to fix it.
