Newly Minted Ruger Owner Today. Question Re: LCP2

Got my LCP 2 today. Cleaned it and took it to the range. Fired about 80 rounds of Federal+Tula cheap-o ammunition. No malfunctions of ANY kind. Was clearly easier to shoot that Bodyguard with better trigger and accuracy. I'm thoroughly impressed especially at the price point I purchased it for. I've only observed one thing that gives me a cause for concern:

The manual explicitly states that the gun is capable of firing with magazine removed. Great! I drop the magazine, load round into chamber directly, then fire. The gun goes boom. But the round doesn't eject but rather falls down through the magwell. I would imagine even with magazine out the round should eject through the ejection port rather than fall down. Just curious if anyone experienced this and if this is normal?

If the slide is moving back at full speed after firing a cartridge, the case will eject out the port (mag or not)

If you remove the magazine and slowly pull back the slide to remove a loaded round, it will probably fall down the magazine well

all a matter of speed

The next round or the mag follower helps with the ejection of the spent casing...

Right that's what I meant. The mag is out and there is a round in the chamber. I fire and the shot goes off. But the casing is NOT ejected through the ejection port but falls down through the magwell.

Try this, rather than drop a round into the chamber without the magazine in the pistol, load from the magazine as you normally would and then remove the magazine, shoot it, and see if the round still drops down or is ejected out the side port. The reason I'm asking you to do this is I want to see if maybe the extractor isn't getting the round fully under control if it doesn't pick it up from the magazine.

I purchased a LCP II in January and it has been a solid performer for me. I have not single loaded it by dropping a round in the chamber. Next time I have it at the range, and if I think of it, I will try it both ways with my pistol.

Was it Tula it dropped in the well?

Sounds like the extractor aint getting a good grip on the brass rim.

Could be cheap ammo, could be the extractor. Could be it needs the mag to help kick it out.

Is it NEW? if not, check to see if there is build up behind the extractor.

Or it could be this,,

." I'm thoroughly impressed especially at the price point I purchased it for. "

Ya generally get what ya pay for.

Good luck.

I've tried feeding it via the magazine as well. Put 1 round in the magazine. Put magazine in. Rack the slide. Round now in the chamber. Drop the mag and fire. Casing drops down the magwell. Same behavior whether the round is placed directly into the chamber or if it's fed from magazine.

Same behavior with Tula and with Federal 380. True both are really cheap stuff from walmart. But no issues as far as shooting either.

I have not tried that with mine. Really never plan to, if it works with the mag out is really all that would matter to me. I really do not know if it is or is not suppose to do that though. Someone else will try it out and let you know though.

My LCP 1 does the same thing. I think the spring pressure of the next round is what makes the extractor/ejector work. I don't think it's a problem.

If you're down to your last shot and your mag is already out of the gun who cares?

You're probably screwed already!

Kinda what I was thinking? At that point the fact that it still went bang is gonna be the most important part
