First Ruger Failure

Over the past 35 plus years, I have owned over 100 Rugers. Today I sent my first Ruger back to Arizona. Recently I bought a P345 in 45 cal. It is extremely accurate. At the range the other day, I noticed about every 3rd round was not firing. I thought my reloads were bad but the primers were not being dented very much. I went to eject a magazine and it would not come out. I had to pry it out. It would not go back in nor would the other one.

I took the gun to the dealer today and they could not figure it out. On the right side of the gun, a little part that I believe is called the "magazine latch" had turned and worked part way out. The dealer decided to call Ruger and explained the problem to them. The requested we send it back to them.

I will keep you posted how things go. I expect Ruger will do a great job and have it back to me quickly.

Well John, if it takes a bit to get back I won't suffer. It is not like I have nothing else to shoot...........................maybe this is a good reason to buy one more gun..........or 2?

I will be sure to let everyone know when I get it back and how it works

volpert,

I love the gun, however I must say that I have only shot about 300 rounds through it. It is very accurate and fits my hand nicely. For me at least, it seems to just hit where I point. I do not mean to sound like I think I am a hot dog shot but I do shoot alot.

Terry ... 35 years is a pretty darn good track record I'd say. In the few instances that I have needed Ruger service over the years, they have always taken good care of me in a timely fashion. While every large company will have a few disgruntled folks who have a bad service experience from time to time (and they're often times very vocal about it), from what I've observed over the years, Ruger service is among the very best. Let us know how it turns out.

I have been wondering about these p345, how do you rate it other than the problem it is having? fit, finish, etc.? I don't know any one locally that owns one and have never seen one in any shops around here. thanks
Volpert ... IMHO the P345 is Ruger's finest .45 semi-auto (I suspect a few P90 owners will disagree :D). Before I purchased my KP345 I had the opportunity to compare it directly to the P90 (50 rounds each). While I liked the P90 trigger a tiny bit better, the feel and overall ergonomics of the P345 made the decision easy for me. Mine now has almost 3,000 rounds down the pipe and with the exception on 2 fail to feeds during the first 50 rounds, it has been perfect.

Buck, What you say is so true. The gun dealer I bought the gun from is very large and they said this is the first P345 they have ever had a problem with. They have sold many. They also said that their experience when dealing with Ruger has been very good and that the turn around time is exceptional. Will keep all posted on how it turns out.

I had to return mine for a similar problem. The hammer pivot pin had worked out and the magazine would not drop after I tried to reseat the pin. I didn't try to pry it out though. Called Ruger, sent it in, got it back in two weeks. Have not had any problems since.

For Carry, my #1 priority is dependability. I have all Rugers P-series 45's, but I carry the P90 for this reason. They are all good, but not as dependable as the P90. I can sacrifice other things to know that, when I point and pull the trigger, it is going to go bang, and keep banging every time I pull it.

I think my problem with this gun is a fluke. Over a period of 30 + years I have owned over 100 Rugers and have never had a bit of trouble in spite of literally 10's of thousands of rounds fired. I am expecting a quick return and no further problems

My .02$,
The barrel from the P90 is very similar to the 345 is all aspects except the length, so I think if a squib bulged a P90, the same goes for the 345. I think it is hard to judge the nonexistant accuracy difference, my hands lend to the P345 so naturally I shoot that better. The P345 has a more innovative locking cam system, equiped with a little buffer spring to boot. The P90 is different. They are equally reliable, 100% in both after the stock recoil spring is replaced in the P345 (15lbs from wolff). The P345 has Picitini (SP) rails for lasers and such. The sights are pretty good on the P345. The P345 is obviously thinner:D. The BIG plus for the P90 is the aluminum frame and frame rails, I hope the polymer frame rails hold up.

What sold me on my P345 is......(don't laugh:rolleyes:)
Massad Ayoob uses a Department issue P345 for carry, IDPA, and everything under the sun. If I could just get one conversation in about the details (specifically milage) of his P345.

I like my Ryger P 345 -

I've only got 200 + rounds through it, but it's been great.

Very accurate.

I conceal carry it sometimes .

My P345 is back! Ruger has shot 10 rounds with each clip. I will be taking it to the range Wednesday to try it out. I love how it feels in my hand! I would have gotten it sooner but was on vacation for 2 weeks. It was back to my dealer in less than 2 weeks. Cuddos to Ruger for such fast service!

Took it to the range as I said. It shoots really good! I love it. Ran 100 rounds thru it with no trouble and the accuracy is awesome. The gun can easily outshoot me.

Great! But you said "10rnds with each clip?" The P345 holds 8+1, and it has a magazine???

You are correct Rugerismisticness. The papers that came from back with the gun from Ruger actually said they shot 20 rounds of ammunition using the owners 2 clips.
