LC9s or American Pistol Compact?

So I have an internal debate between the LC9s and the American Pistol Compact (9mm). I currently carry a 1st generation LCP but would like something chambered for 9mm since the ammo is a bit cheaper and my full size is an SR9. It would just keep things easy when buying ammo and taking it to the range.

I generally pocket carry at work but am not opposed to occasionally carrying IWB when untucked. I've tried the "tuck" holsters and they're not for me.

I've dry fired both pistols and I love the trigger on the LC9s. I do, however think the A.P. compact is a bit more versatile since they make a full size magazine extension should you ever need it. I also like the styling of the A.P. quite a bit more.

But that LC9s trigger though......

Has anyone owned both of them and which one to do prefer? I wish I could just buy them both!!

Thanks!
Doug

I own the LC9s and the 9E so I feel I can maybe give you a little insight. The LC9s is very smoothed out with rounded edges and carries very comfortably with it's thin design. I shoot my LC9s equally well on my 8 inch steel targets I have on my range at 10 yards. You are right about the trigger on the 9s, love mine for rapid fire shooting and the gun shoots where I look. Another thing to think about is the thin single stack mags are also easy to conceal.

I have both the LC9s and the RAPc 9mm. If you only can get one and generally pocket carry, then LC9s.

I pocket carry my LC9S pro with no problem. Very accurate gun too.

You can get an extended 9 rd mag for the lc9 also. Much thinner gun for carry

Thanks all. I was leaning LC9S but I guess I just needed a little coaxing.

Not to complicate things for you but... I own SR9c, LC9s and an LCP Custom. My favorite handgun (and I have several others) is the SR9c. I shoot it better than anything I own. I guess the ergos are just right for me and now I just have more confidence with it than anything else including full-size like my Glock 17.

I only recently picked up the LCP Custom and now that I have it, the LC9s is kind of a tweener for me. I don't shoot it nearly as well as the heavier and higher capacity SR9c and it doesn't conceal as well as the LCP Custom. Don't get me wrong, I like the LC9s. Maybe if I could only have one carry gun, it would be the LC9s. However, I now find I either carry the bigger, larger capacity that I shoot really well or the pocket pistol (LCP Custom). If I already had an LCP, I don't think I would buy an LC9s as my 9. I'd go with something beefier with more rounds that I could shoot much better. In my opinion, the LC9s is just too big to pocket carry. I'm 5'11" and 190#s. It can't be pulled from my Levi's pocket with any ease at all.

My $.02 YMMV.

Interesting. I never thought of a SR9c. I do like how the full size shoots and it is a thinner pistol.

I stumbled upon the Urban Carry G2 holster today which made me rethink my decision. I could have a beefier compact pistol and still carry fairly comfortably according to positive reviews.

Maybe I could turn in my full size for the compact....

Wasn't per se selling the SR9c (although I really like mine). If you like the RAP9c I'm sure it's a good choice too. I just have come to look at if you have an LCP you have a genuine pocket gun, the LC9s is pretty big for a pocket gun and it's still only 7+1, albeit 9mm. I like carrying the SR9c when I can. When it's not practical, I used to carry the LC9s but now the LCP Custom. It's even more concealable. So the LC9s doesn't give me the most gun or the most concealability.

A lot of folks strongly believe it's best to not rotate carry pistols - be extremely comfortable with one and carry it everyday. If I subscribed to that, I'd carry the LC9s - it's a great gun and it's a good compromise of size, power and capacity. I just happen to like my SR9c so much that it's my preference. I can't carry it with everything I wear. I've never gotten fully comfortable with tuckable holsters. So I'm pretty happy rotating with the pocket gun. Everyone has different needs, requirements and comfort.

I have both. LC9S and the RAP9C. For carry the LC9S is the only way to go for comfort in pocket or IWB.

I Love the RAP9C it is a fantastic Pistol but for carry I will always grab the LC9S or my LCPll.

Good luck on you're decision.

Decided to keep the LCP for every day carry and switch out my SR9 for a Sig Sauer P320 Compact (9mm).

Went to the local gun shop and fell in love. Totally changed my plans!!

The Sig P320 is next on my list as well. I carry a G19 so I plan to eventually get the Sig in the carry rotation. Let us know how the Sig shoots for you.

I had the P320 compact for a while...very nice pistol; but since it was so close to my P229r, I sold it when I downsized the collection. Too big for me to CC comfortably, so I carry the LC9s or sPro daily. Probably the best combination of comfort and 'fit' I've found so far...with a grip wrap for better grip.
