Walking pin

I do have one negative concerning my SR9c, that I left out of my previous post. Part # 54, the "Magazine Latch Pivot Pin" is sticking out about a 1/16" on the right side of the pistol. Anyone else have "walking pins" on their SR9c? I don't know much about polymer pistols, but is blue locktite a good way to fix this? Does it stick to the polymer?

The pins have a " Spring" that holds them in place. It's on the left side of the trigger assembly and it can move out of place very easily while being assembled. If it moves it will not correctly fit in the slots in the pins and they will move.

Thanks for the tip about the spring, HunterMan. I haven't dis-assembled the pistol that far. The spring must not have been correctly installed originally. I'll have a look at it.

According to the schematic, part# 54, the "Magazine Latch Pivot Pin" is not grooved and isn't held by a spring. I'll tap it back and see what happens at the next range visit.

Sorry about that. My Bad. I was thinking of the two pins located with the slide disassembly pin. Sorry for the confusion.

No, Loctite will not work on plastics. It doesn't worlk on loose metals either!

I had the same issue, one time early on, with my sr9, tapped it back in and no issues since.

Thanks for the info. Just looked at mine and the pin looks okay. Can barely feel it with my fingernail on the right side. Will keep watching to see if it does move.

SR9c Magazine Latch Pivot Pin

I have an SR9c and have the same problem. There's a thread in the other forum about the same problem. The individual spoke with Ruger and they said get a 1/8" punch an peen it over. One guy said he use loctite 222 with success. I looked at my SR40 and it looks like that it has been peened by Ruger at the factory. Now I think loctite 425 is a better choice than loctite 222. Loctite 222 is not good for plastics. I ordered some 425 for about 20 bucks from Amazon and I will see how it works. Peening will be my last resort if the Loctite does not work.

photocyclist58, welcome to the forum.

Be sure to keep us informed about your locktite fix for the "walking pin". The peen fix might be the quickest way.

I don't think I should have to "peen" a part on a new pistol. And, I'm a bit afraid to do so. If I have a future problem, could Ruger say that I've violated my warranty?

I had the same problem with my SR9c and the pin backing out but not my SR9. Not enough to shake my confidence in this excellent little pistol! My 9c is my daily carry, and keeps elsie company. Goes Bang every time ya pull the trigger and hits what it's pointed at! Couldn't ask for more than that. So I just tapped it back into place figured I'd just see what happened on the next range visit. If it continues I'll more than likely contact Ruger too. Or may go the Locktite route as well if it proves to be a good fix. Not too keen on peening the pin over either nor am I comfortable about doing either.

I have a very new SR9c, and put around 100 rounds through it Saturday, with no "pin walking". Might not have shot it enough to create the problem...

I'll keep an eye on it, but no defects so far (other than the friggin' tension from the recoil spring!).

Up until yesterday I didn't have a walking pin issue....I've had some other issues and sent it back to Ruger. It shoots great now but did notice after shooting another 200 rounds yesterday the pin has walked it's way out like yours. I only tapped the pin back in waiting to here if anyone finds a permanent fix.
