Recently bought a N.I.B. L.C.P. from a guy that had bought two of them at Academy Sporting Goods, one for him and one for his wife. Anyway she shot his and didn't really like it,she decided to keep carrying her Taurus Judge so this left him an "extra" L.C.P. just laying around. I latched onto the L.C.P. for $300.00! I've been on a long waiting list for this pistol for quite awhile with no actuall delivery date available and since Academy stuck him over $390.00 I felt pretty lucky to get the new one and it is the current model. Now here's where the problem part comes up. I have C/T laser grips on my Glock 26 and 30 and they work great. Seems that getting older has really been playing hell with my eyesight so the lasers work out great. I put one on the L.C.P. and here's the problem, the way the laser mounts around the trigger guard creates a ridge on both sides inside of the trigger guard and when you squeeze off a round the ridges created by the laser rub on the bottom of your trigger finger to the point where it is actually very uncomfortable to shoot the gun. Maybe it's just my bony assed finger but after puttiny 50 rounds thru the L.C.P. I had managed to rub two grooves into the bottom of my trigger finger. I sent Crimson Trace an e-mail asking if they had a soultion for this since it really is a design error(guess that they got in a hurry to market the grip when they seen how well the L.C.P.s were accepted!) but it's been a couple of weeks and still haven't gotten any response back from them. Maybe they didn't like my suggestion about them correcting the problem by designing a composite insert that would simply fit inside of the trigger guard and snap over the exposed ridges to make the inside of the trigger guard smooth and provide these to everyone that has bought the laser grip for free! Since it looks like that idea has about a snowballs chance in hell for ever going anywhere I'm asking the other people that have the same set up to e-mail Crimson Trace with similar complaints. Maybe if they get more than just one or two complaints something might get done about this, or we can just sit around and wait for someone that has the resources to design and produce an aftermarket solution, like the trigger guard insert I suggested to C/T which apparently has fallen on deaf ears up there in Oregon. If anyone out ther has come up with a "fix" for the trigger guard set up besides using duct tape or something similar as a filler between those ridges please let me know about it, until then the G-26 or the G-30 go out with me and the L.C.P. stays in the gun safe.

holeshot308, realistically is this a problem? The LCP is not a "target gun", and I would say that you have done your duty to learn how your LCP shoots by putting 50 rounds through it. I tell people most every day that these guns are not target guns, and should not be thought of as such. If they want a shooter, the I steer them to one. In short, don't sweat the grip issue. The gun used as intended, self defense, will be just fine. And the duct tape fix doesn't sound bad for a pocket gun. |

Pocket guns require a little different grip to shoot comfortably. Tighten your grip slightly with your middle and third finger and you can possibly rid yourself of the trigger finger bite.

When I shot the LCP I had to change my grip positon a couple of time. Since the C/T laser on the lcp has a front actication switch you have to grip the gun tightly to keep the laser on wheras with my Glocks the activation switch is on the back of the grips. The lcp shoots fine for a pocket gun, keeping a seven shot string in about a 3 inch group at 10 yards. Knew this was an "up front in your face" pistol to begin with. I found one box of Hornady critical defense ammo and two boxes of CCI Blazer alum. cased after I bought the gun and with ammo being really scarce I had to overpay the gunshop here to even get ammo($45.00 for the Hornady and $25.00 for the CCI stuff). I prefer Speer Gold Dots and I've read a couple of ballistic tests where the Gold Dots actually expanded better and more consistiently than the Hornady even when shot thru wet phone books wrapped with denim and leather. I backordered 200 rounds of .380 ammo from Georgia Arms since they load with low flash powder and use the 90 gr. Speer Gold Dot bullets with an estimated M.V. of 950 F.P.S. and at the time I placed the order the .380 was going for about $41.00/100 rounds. When I got the ammo though the bags were marked $26.50/50 rounds (still got it at the b/o price though), still not bad considering that they make really good ammo. Have shot their .9mm,.38,.357 mag .40 S&W and .45 ACP for years and it has always shot clean and consistent regardless of what pistol I ran it through. I backordered 200 round of Black Hills .380 that uses the Hornady XTP 90 gr. bullet so whenever it gets here I can do some "backyard ballistic testing" and see which of the three perform the best out of the lcp. Anyway about the grip problem, I found a piece of A-Grip material left over from putting them on my Glocks, trimmed it to fit inside the trigger guard and wrap over those pesky ridges so the gun is now a lot more comfortable to shoot( if you're not familiar with A-Grips you need to check them out at www.brookstactical.com. The A-Grips greatly improve your grip on the pistol and actually grip better whenever they get wet, a BIG PLUS whenever it's raining or if you sweat a lot! Great on all pistols but especially on the polymer framed ones that tend to get slippery when wet).Tell Brooks that holeshot told you about the A-Grips, but if you decide to buy one check them out at Dillons Blue Press, www.bluepress.com. Dillon gets about $20.00 on them and they are well worth the price. Thanks for the feedback,Holeshot 308!! Last edited by holeshot308; 06-07-2009 at 07:06 AM. |

Could it be that your fingers are too big for this gun? I've got big hands (XL gloves fit tight on me) and I barely have clearance underneath my finger when I pull the trigger. The part of the CT where it fits over the trigger guard is smoothly beveled on mine, make sure yours is the same. A little tweaking with a file maybe all you need. The Laser makes all the difference with this little jewel. The LCP's tiny sights and short sight length make it impossible for me to hit a target consistently even at close range without the laser. With the Laser I am usually dead on. Spent some time "sighting" it it, at the range, making sure that the bullets go where the red dot is. |

I considered a CT laser, but decided against it. I carry in usually a jacket pocket, and any intended target would be within 10 yards. Fortunately my eyesight is still good enough for that distance. It is mostly instinctive shooting at that distance anyway. It is a last ditch gun for when you can't run fast enough to get away.

Have an Armalaser installed on my LCP. It is nowhere the inside or bottom of the trigger guard. A plus is no button to push, just graze the front inside (almost impossible not to do when putting your finger in the trigger guard) of the trigger guard and it comes on for 12 seconds.

I also have an ArmaLaser for my LCP. Very durable and light weight. No buttons to push. Come on when trigger guard is touched, I'm very happy with it.

Mine doesn't bother me. I carry it in my front pocket in a DeSantis Nemesis holster. ![]() I actually shot it a few times every time I go to the range just to make sure all is well with the gun. I'm not real accurate with it, but I believe you need to know how a gun shoots - this one needs some practice to shoot well. Just my .02 worth. |
