New to forum, but thought I'd pass on my initial impression of the RAP 45. I went to Cabela's a couple of weeks ago with the intention of purchasing my fourth Ruger in the past 11 months -- the RAP in 45. I own the SR1911, LC9s and LCP II. I really liked the feel of the RAP and had read a lot of great things about it. But when I went to dry fire it in the store, I pulled the trigger and nothing happened. I wasn't releasing the trigger safety. I had to pull my finger a little ways out of the trigger guard and almost use the tip of my finger to release the safety. Now, my fingers are slightly plump, but not fat. The (skinnier) salesman tried it, and when he raised his finger up higher on the trigger, it did the same thing. Curious if anyone else has had this experience or if it was a bad safety. In short, I bought a Springfield XD mod.2 in 45 and am really pleased. Like a thumb safety, I don't want to have to concentrate on finger placement to ensure my gun is going to fire. Still a fan of Rugers, though.

I have the RAP .45 full size. The finger placement on the trigger safety should be remedied by changing the grip size.

I believe Ruger has produced another great product, I see no reason that Ruger will not come out with compact models at some time. For a striker pistol this has a very smooth trigger and crisp reset, maybe longer than some-others, but nothing that detracts from what this pistol was designed as. I am leaning towards the Safariland GLS for a holster, I am using a Glock, Lrg. SportCombat for now. In summary I am very pleased with the Ruger American Pistol.
This is my 4th pistol, I also have the RAP in 9mm compact. I LOVE the grip why would u change it?!

I had the same thing happen to me as Bombay Bob. When I dry fired the RAP .45c it didn't work and I had to make adjustments. When I got the mine in and fired it there were no problems. This is my most accurate pistol and I'm selling my Springfield XD mod.2 45. From what I understand, the grips make all the difference in the world.

Yes, I think it is normal for the RAP to choke on SWC. Like the 1911, there may need to be some minor throating of the barrel performed.
