My new Gen LCP has the same hole. Has never seemed to cause any problems. Will probably contact Ruger and ask about it.

After looking it over and thinking about it, I doubt this little hole presents any real problem.
I will think it over about contacting Ruger.

I did call Ruger CS. The lady looked into it and came back and said it was normal and would not cause any problems. Good enough for me.

GONRA sez nobody likes "casting voids".
We're "good sports" when they are on WW II era 8mm Nambu Japanese M94 pistols,
(and some other "collector items") but NOT MODERN PRODUCTION!!!

Obviously, nothing bad is gonna happen with this Ruger, but it looks VERY BAD!

Putting up wth CASTING VOIDS at Today's Prices - are you kidding?

mines three years old with hundreds of rounds down the pipe and has the same void. I think this is a non-strength area and means nothing to the functioning of the gun. I don't much like it but it don't much matter. I don't know for sure but I think they probably magnaflux the slides and have some spec for acceptable indications.

just found this thread as I was concerned about the same pitting on my lcp 2 slide.

I contacted the ruger and will update once I hear from them.

spoke to ruger representative. She said it was a "ventilation hole" and "something that happens when they machine the slide".

GONRA sez machining the casting just "uncovered" a casting void.

And it's amazing that so many of the "uncovered casting voids" are shaped exactly the same and found in the same locations on multiple slides shown in pictures over the past 7 years that I've owned an LCP and followed this topic here and on the original "ElsiePea" forum.

Based on the numbers of slides that have the marks on the underside of the slide, I would have to believe that if the voids occur randomly, Ruger must have a huge pile of slides that have been discarded cuz there are voids on the visible side.

I don't buy the casting void explanation.

On the other forum, which catered only to the LCP from the beginning, many, many machinists insisted that the voids were part of the secondary machining and testing process during manufacturing of the slide.
