I am seriously considering the purchase of one.

Any negatives that I need to hear about?

I wasn't a fan of the thin grips, but that's just personal preference.
My gun had no issues what so ever.

Those are nice. I have only had my hands on the Commander version and it was impressive.

I got one last spring. I also have had a Kimber for several years. I was looking for a lighter .45 Acp, but was skeptical because I have arthritis in my hands and have had reconstructive surgery on my right thumb 2 years ago. However I love the gun and the way it feels. Felt recoil seems less or no more than the Kimber. It carries well and it is my favorite gun.

Slightly but no completely off topic, I have the LW Commander in 9mm. And I love it. Wonderful size and balance, and a sweet shooting, accurate pistol. What's not to love!?!

Concur. I recently got my 9mm SR1911, gun shoots great and to be honest, after a more than a couple of years with the 45, this gun suits me much better

Wife and I shot both of our 9mm 1911's today. A Ruger SR1911 and a Springfield Armory EMP4. The EMP is tighter but fails to feed occasionally for her, The Ruger never did fail for either of us today. I think it has to do with her hand strength more than anything. Trigger on the Ruger has a very little creep but noticablly lighter than the EMP with no creep. Bought the EMP for her to fit her hands a little better and she likes the way it feels. I like the Ruger better but I think it's just a little behind the EMP for fit and finish but the EMP was $200.00 more than the Ruger. If I could shoot and try both guns out before buying I'd probably buy the Ruger again. I think the EMP had a little softer recoil but it has a bull barrel with more weight forward.

Question Just got mine

I am a long time user of a vintage 1911 45. I really like the SR1911, while it can't compare to some of my buddies custom 1911, right out of the box it keeps up with them. I put about 200 rounds of mixed brands with no problems. In reading the manual, it makes no mention of 9+ ammo. I use Syntec ammo in my MP40, it is super clean and like the way it shoots. Syntec for the 9mm is only 9+. Is the sr1911 LW built to handle the higher pressures?

I have the "basic" 5" model and love it. Quotes because the basic model has enough upgrades to make it not so basic. Ruger did a great job with this.
I used to have a "basic" Kimber. Hard to compare guns I shot years apart, but I loved that as well. Never have I shot better than I do with my SR1911
