96/44

What's a good used 96/44 worth? I know that's a vague question, but I'm just wondering ball park.

Blueing is 90% or better and the wood is in very good shape. The Lever looks to be case hardened and this seemed odd to me but it's like that.

Bore is bright and clean and the crown is good.

Comes with a single magazine and the asking price is 419 plus tax.

The last one of these I saw locally used was 600 bucks which I thought was crazy.

I don't need another 44, but what's that got to do with anything...

I know my usual shop took one in Thursday evening. Might see what they're asking.

Prices often fluctuate by region. I picked mine up used (very lightly used) with two mags for $450 a year ago.

If you see a decent condition Ruger 96/44 on a rack for sale the unwritten rule of thumb is it'll probably be gone next time you visit that shop even if it's the next day.

Sometimes a hunter passes on and the estate sells the guns through the local gun shop. I picked up a good original Winchester 92 that way. The gun had been oiled & polished and well cared for & sat in the cabinet for years. The wife was in her 80's & didn't hunt.

You don't see many good Ruger 96/44s on the racks they don't sit there long.

The 96/44 is light, fast swinging, built strong like a Abrams Tank like all Rugers are and accurate.

I was smart & bought 2 extra mags with mine back when they were easy to come by and NO......the mag from the Ruger 77/44 DOESN'T fit the 96/44.
