So... What's it worth?

Playing with my No. 1's that I just received has got me curious about a true lever gun. Over at gunbroker.com (link to auction) there is a Ruger 96 in 44 magnum that was built in 1999 and is in what looks to be excellent condition. Right now, the auction is sitting at $555 with less than 22 hours to go. How much would any of you pay for this gun?

Hello Lonnie, I took a look a to get clue cause it's way out of my league as I'm not a rifle guy but I do have an appreciation. Sure looks clean from those pictures and with 30 bids already someone else must think so as well.

Only thing I could say is it's hard for me to picture a a lever gun outside of a 'western' type looking one. When I went to that sire and saw the first picture before I saw the lever I though it might be a M1 Carbine.

It does look a bit like an M1 Carbine.... I hadn't even thought about the look of the rifle when I got curious about a lever gun. Hell, push come to shove I'd rather have a Henry in .357, but I'm still curious about the model 96.

Hey Lonnie, I hear so many good things about a Henry. Real Americana as they say.
Carry your side arm and the same caliber in your rifle that's what it was all about.

Good luck if you get it and have fun.

While I've never owner a Ruger lever gun, I've seen them reach $700-$800 + in similar condition. Marlin 1894's in .44 mag are typically $600 - $1000, depending on the model, and they look more traditional, Old West style.

I think the new Remlin (Marlin made by Remington) is about $600'ish too, but don't expect them to hold value like an original JM Marlin. I'm not sure what year Ruger stopped making the 96, but that info is out there somewhere. I've got Marlin lever guns, but not Ruger. If I could get that one for $550, I would buy it, because I do own and love Rugers. Good luck with which ever one you decide on, I'm sure you'll be happy with either one.
