This is a discussion on Ah bare naked........ within the Ruger Lever-Action forums, part of the Rifle & Shotgun Forum category; I have a 336 in .35 Remington, no "C" or "CS", this is a pre-cross bolt Marlin. And man it shoots tight!...
I do like the lever guns. I have several Marlins that get out occasionally; 22, 357, 44, and 30-30. Don't shoot them very much because I became a revolver man.
45-70s hurt because I dont re load hear there are some re-loaders who say its like shooting a 44special
Blame them lawyers on that and some old trapdoors that are still out there. You probably know all about a 45-70 being a blackpowder round and that they load them for all weapons that chamber it, SAAMI MAP specs for the .45-70 are set at 28,000 cup. Ammo makers like Rem, Win and Federal simply don't want lawsuits, so commercial .45-70 factory ammunition is loaded to about 21,000 cup. Cor-Bon, Buffalo Bore and Garrett, all load very hot, commercially available .45-70 ammo for big game use. These companies limit cartridge pressure to 35,000 cup, due mainly to fall safely within the Marlin lever gun's receiver strength limitation, which is around 44,000 cup.
I enjoy seeing everyones pictures and thought I'd throw mine on the pile. Even though I don't get out with them nearly as much as I want, I love levers too. Here are my Marlins. 336/30-30 & 39A Golden Boy.
