? New 8 shot Double Action? (.357 Mag.)

On the Sportsmans cable tv channel. The show Ruger "Inside and Out". On the episode about DA revolvers. They briefly showed a 8 shot DA revolver. Did anyone else see this?

What are the chances that Ruger will make an 8 shot .357 DA revolver?

Never know. Smith & Wesson and Taurus have been making them for a while now. Having enjoyed a S&W 686 Plus and now my Ruger SP101, I think an 8 shot .357mag would be fun for the range or even make a nice home defense piece. But if for the woods, thinking 6 shots of .44mag would be better. So guess just a matter of what your intended purpose is.

My avatar shows me shooting a S&W 627 eight shot revolver in Steel Challenge competition.

I would be seriously interested in a Ruger eight shot DA.

It would have to be a Redhawk/SRH size frame, I don't think we'll ever see an 8 shot .357 Alaskan or anything like that.

I don't even think we would see a 7-shot GP100.

I would go for a .45Colt or .45acp revolver made smaller than the Redhawk in line with the S&W 625. I think there is a market out there for such a gun. The Redhawk seems to me to be needlessly large for either cartridge.

The Taurus Model 608 is a full size .357 revolver that holds 8 rounds.

Same here. I shoot steel challenge with a GP100. Having two more rounds in the revolver would sure be comforting.

(I hope somebody at Ruger is reading this....and if you are please, please, please build a 45 acp revolver for the rest of my competition shooting.)

But, it is a Taurus. There is a reason why you don't see them in competitions.

I started shooting Steel Challenge with a six shot S&W 625. I switched to the eight shot 627. It is nice have the extra rounds available.

I sure hope that Ruger will make an 8 shot GP 100!

The competition shooter market will welcome an alternative to the 627.

That would require quite the investment on Ruger's part as it would require a totally new frame, cylinder, etc.

S&W make (made?) made a TRR8 which was a LEO gun w/8 rounds that was drilled and tapped for rails top/bottom of the flat sided barrel. Finished all black and only from their Performance Center. Large frame, maybe N.

Doesn't it seem unlikely that a GP100 would even hold 8 shots of .357? When they introduced the .327, they went to the effort to redesign things so it could hold 7 shots. I would imagine 7 is all they could fit, or else they would have had it hold more.

As mentioned, S&W's 8-shot .357 is on the N-frame. A gun closer in size to the Redhawk.

Strictly speaking, Ruger makes two DA 8-shot revolvers. The LCR and SP101. Though obviously that's not what the OP meant. But is that what they showed on the TV show?

I would be happier if Ruger brought out a six shot .45acp with a 4.2" barrel for IDPA/IPSC competitors. The S&W 625 is scarce as hens teeth up here and only comes in a 5" barrel. If Ruger did they would have a platform to come out with a 45Colt version. Hopefully the gun wou;d be smaller than the Redhawk.

I know one shooter had his cylinder cut for moon clips and shoots revolver in IPSC shooting minor with his 686. Ne made Master. Liike his says there is no penalty shooting minor in IPSC Revolver....all you have to do is shoot "A's.

Take Care
