What Do I Do ?

I have a chance to pick up an early Christmas present.
A GP100, # 1705 that I've had on order for months.
Now I know Ruger maybe releasing a Wiley Clapp "lookalike" soon.
What do I do, get this one that I was expecting well into next year or wait till next year to get the one to be released (if it does) ?
Both is not an option.....

"Maybe" against a sure thing. I would go with a sure thing.

Get them both! You know you want to. You can never have to many .357's.

I am with 303. Get the sure thing. You won't be disappointed with any GP.

Copied from my answer in the other place it was posted:

I admit I was pretty irritated when I heard that Ruger was going to copy the Wiley Clapp and make it a production gun, still not happy about it but, regardless, I'd get the 1705. I love the 4" GP100s and its a for sure for you right now. The WC wannabe hasn't even been released yet so who knows how that will go. Besides...you can get the 1705 now and be enjoying it and at sometime in the future you decide you want the other one you can hunt out the best deal on a real WC (do you really want a wannabe WC anyway?) and trade your 1705 in if you need to. Besides if you are going to spend the money wouldn't you rather pay a bit more and get a real WC that has a much bigger cool factor and will retain its value and eventually increase its value?

I say get the 1705, it's a great gun and you'll have it in hand long before you'll actually see a WC clone.

Great news James! You were looking at at least another year to get a 1705 and here it is available now. I'd say grab the 1705 now and don't look back. Anything that may appear in the future on the WC "look alike" model you could likely have done to a 1705 or even do it yourself (countouring/softening dges, bead blasted finish, altamont grips, etc.) I know a real WC is not an option for you due to barrel length restrictions but you could turn a 4.2" 1705 into a pretty close look alike yourself. If that really matters - the 1705 is pretty nice right out of the box.

I cast my vote with the majority. Grab it. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

A GP100 in the hand is worth a whole lot more than a maybe Wiley Clapp version.

I'd been happy with either. If you have a sure thing that's the route I'd go. If you don't mind gambling and waiting no telling how much longer go with the Wiley Clapp. I'm easy to get along with.
Whatever you decide I hope it meets your expectations.
Now that I think about it, a man of your stature just buy both of them. I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to get enough money together before the Wiley Clapp will even get in your neck of the woods.

It depends. Did you "settle" for the sure thing or was it true love at first sight (pun intended)? You made a commitment to the GP100 and now you found something a little prettier. The GP100 is an honest girl not pretending to be anything but herself. If you go and ditch your betrothed for the seductress, you may catch the Clapp Just follow your heart.

Never pass on a chance to purchase a really great gun! If the other does come around then after you pick it up (yes buy two guns) you'll have something to compare it to. Smithy.

Maybe you ought to order a tank, after your last ordeal. It might make it through customs without getting damaged.
