LCR-357 back to Ruger

Found a new screwdriver this morning, for the crane release button screw. Had to file a tiny bit off the tip for a good fit.

To double-check, I decided to run the screw out a few turns, so I could see the ends of the slot. Okay, screwdriver filled it well. Then, the screw would not go back in....

I thought then, I'd unscrew it, and clean out whatever was binding it. Backed out about three turns, and it stuck. Really stuck.........

A little extra muscle wrecked the slot. Extra pressure against it didn't help. Already had scuffs and scrapes on the finish, and decided I'd stop there.

Tiny screw, no slot, sunk in a recess, what to do? I don't trust my ability, and not sure of the only local smith I know of. So, I'll call Ruger in the morning, and hope this won't take two months like my LCR-22 troubles did ......

Sorry about your issue. Hopefully Ruger will be able to give you an easy solution over the phone.

Sorry to hear about the troubles. Especially when it happens to a good guy like Mr. Bearcatter.

I almost lost the button screw for my 22 LCR. I noticed it was backed out a few days after I got it. Removed it and then reinserted it with some blue loctite. Unfortunately that was the least of my problems.... Mine has been at Ruger for over a week now. Haven't heard anything yet so I might give them a call in the morning (if I can get through).

I had to jump through some hoops to get my LCR sent in. The guy on the phone told me their normal return process was broke down. Not sure what that means? but it can't be good.

Good luck bud. I hope things go smooth for ya.

So far so good. The guy in CS was knowledgeable, knew just what I was talking about. Said since I had not had the LCR long (I've had it eight months), he'd email a shipping label. Thank you Ruger!

Just left it at UPS, Ruger will have it tomorrow. CS said most right now are returned in three weeks.

He never mentioned a return FFL, maybe I'll get out of that hassle? I gave them the FFL's info in the package, just in case.

At least my LCR can do some shooting before I do, in the test fire.

The finish came off of the screw recess, and I left a few curved lines below it, from the screwdriver handle. If it comes off that easily, maybe I'll just do Ruger's usual brushed stainless finish on it with some Scotchbrite.......

Got a call from Ruger this morning. They can't repair my LCR-357. They can't get a broken screw out? I think there must be more to it. Either the screw was stuck due to a manufacturing flaw, or they slipped drilling it out?

From what I read here on RF and other places, Ruger is pretty generous on replacing guns these days.

They are replacing mine, takes a week or two to get one after they order it. I never understood that part, either. They have to order and wait for something that is made at the same address?

At least now my LCRs will match. My first LCR-22 had a Target Grey cylinder, as does this LCR. Both will have been replaced with Ion Bond DiamondBlack cylinder finish models. Unfortunately I prefer the Target Grey, as it's not a coating.

I was looking at an LCR this sounds a cautionary note!

They have certainly had some teething problems. I still like 'em. My replacement LCR-22 is just fine, and the 357 was okay, too, until the screw issue.

This case may be that the labor and cost of repair exceeds the lost profit of replacing it, I don't know. I'm looking forward to getting one back.

A black finish cylinder shows one of very recent production, maybe less chance of any issues, but lots of folks have earlier ones that are fine.

Bearcatter, I wish you a "speedy recovery" for your new LCR! Gosh you've had some rotten luck with your LCR's haven't you. Hopefully you'll be good to go for a fun shooting summer. I'm glad Ruger is taking great care of you too.

Thank you, things just happen sometimes. I hope the ammo panic goes away and we can all have a fun shooting summer. Ruger has always went above and beyond, IMHO.

Amen brother! I wouldn't sell my LCR for nuttin, for those thinking they should avoid buying an LCR. Every firearm company has it's wildchild in the family.

Same thing they told me about my LCR.
I just received an email from UPS that my replacement LCR is arriving at my LGS tomorrow. I will have to do another background check since it's a brand new gun.

Well "brand new" is what I sent them. Mine had 3 separate defects. When my new one comes in tomorrow, I'm selling it "unfired". My confidence in the LCR has been shattered. Unusual batting average... 1 swing = 3 strikes.

If you get a receipt for the FFL charges, and send a copy back to Ruger CS, they'll reimburse you. It takes about three weeks, but you will get a check.

Sorry you're giving up on them, I'm not. My first replacement was fine, and I expect this one will give me two good LCRs.

Just got an email notification from UPS that Ruger has shipped my replacement LCR. It is scheduled to be delivered to my FFL on Monday. Nice, it's 2nd day air, but I get it in four days (?). My FFL is open on Saturdays, maybe he'll get it then, anyway. Not sure if 2nd day has Saturday delivery.
